Just in case someone here hasn't yet seen it, Rolling Stone online has this concert headlined under their "Top Stories" section, complete with a positive review, full setlist, and photo. I thought it was a pretty big deal to make headline news like that!

Absolutely. That kind of thing is what this board is for, isn't it?

From Probyn -- he and Mikey are actually sharing bass guitar duties.

Makes sense -- I believe that's what they did on the later Wondermints albums.

I gotta say, that's a pretty cool looking stage backdrop in that RS photo: At first it looks like a drive-in movie screen, then looking closer it looks kind of like those 40's/50's Bakelite radios like the one from the new single. Kind of a dual-meaning thing going on there. Very nice.

Cheers to the designer(s), although Brian and his piano look a little too far out of the center-stage area. Maybe he'll be closer at future shows.

Let's hope the positive byproduct of that is that it keeps the music fresh as the tour goes on...having a different bass player switch off to does help keep the musicians' energy up.

SonoraDick,

Great pics on your Facebook page. Thank you for sharing them, as well as your experiences last evening. I can't wait until my turn comes around on May 19th.

They do all sound good, don't they?
Those who are worried about the mix shouldn't be. Foskett is only really audible when there's a prominent falsetto part, and for the most part all you can hear vocally in the mix is the five Beach Boys plus Foskett. This isn't, as I'd expected, the backing band taking all the strain -- it's five elderly men, with their voices not all in great shape, but not hiding or faking that.

Yikes! Sorry but it looks like I'm seeing them on the 17th, not the 19th Sad! Everybody else is going to not my show (Wrightfan I know you are accounted for. Anyone else who's going say so too!). Guess I got too excited reading this thread. I think we may need another convention sometime. Do people like BBQs?  Grin

I thought about the Bethlehem show, but thought it better to see The Beach Boys at the Shore in Atlantic City. Hey, we can always get a group together for a new album listening party. Smiley

There's a *lot* of Brian leads, actually -- he does Little Girl I Once Knew as well as the other ones noted. Someone (Jeff or Cowsill or possibly both) has to cover for him on the first middle eight on Sail On Sailor when he completely forgets the words, but the rest of the lead is as good as I've heard him singing that song. (On Sail On Sailor you *can* hear the backing band singing). He's great on Heroes & Villains, too. This is a *really* good show...

If I had more funds, I probably would've seen them in AC too. It was a grad present from my mom!

It is a wonderful thread. Almost entirely positive for once.

Also proof that there's no way in hell we're going to be able to use just one thread for all of the shows.

Absolutley my pleasure!  I'm also enjoying reading everyone's posts and reviews...thought it'd be good to get them all in one area rather than having them float around on the board and have it veer off in different directions!   Smiley

Definitely, stacks.  At this rate, if we kept it to one thread we'd probably be looking at 500+ page thread once this tour is over haha!  I don't even want to think about that.  I shall start the next thread for the second gig later tonight--it might not turn out as high-energy as last night's but at least we can still keep the organization in tact.
