I'm sure this may have been mentioned already but has anyone noticed the similarity between Tune x off the box set and the beginning of Gee?

I was wondering if someone would start a thread about Tune X. This is an amazing song. It really should have been developed into a released track. I think it could have been massive and with harmonies on top? Well, that would have been heavenly. Does anyone know if vocals exist for this and if there are any comments on it by the boys?

Josh, I haven't really listened to the other ones yet but it would be great for someone to put Tune X up. I would hope it would gain a lot of views. I want someone to complete it!

Tune X/Tones and Three Blind Mice have been on bootlegs for a few years now.

Anyone know how tune x came to be recorded? Was there studio time that Brian couldnt use for some reason so Carl and Dennis decided to try something with their songs?

I was curious as to why, instead of letting "Tones/Tune X" break down into studio chatter as the other bonus tracks do, they chose to fade it out?

It's not like the tape's damaged or anything; bootleg copies just let it run its course.

With "I Don't Know" being in the same key and similar tempo I am surprised nobody has mixed the 2 together yet and posted that. I would right now but I have to go to work.

What's frustrating is it seems like it was developed further. What we have is just what was recorded the 1st day (March 3)...there were two further days of sessions logged as Tune X--one of which was a vocal session. Odd that apparently no one remembers anything about the song. I agree, it is amazing. I'm deeply curious what was intended for it.

Props to Mark and Alan for getting this (and I Don't Know) on this set!

In my opinion, Tones, I Don't Know, and parts of With Me Tonight all sound very similar. I can also hear occasional traces of Mona Kani, and Stevie, oddly enough.

Sounds to me like an ancestor of "Long Promised Road," especially on the choruses.  Carl sometimes referred to LPR as the first song he ever wrote.

I never thought about that Dan, but I can definitely hear it now. I can almost put the words of the chorus of Long Promised Road to the "up tempo" part of Tones/Tune X. Funny how something can be so obvious that it completely goes over your head.  Grin
