I am a SMiLE fanatic, when it was announced that SMiLE was finally going to be released in it's original form, I got so excited!

in fact, I wanted to know what it was like for Brian to imagine all these ideas, and record them, so, now I present:

Mike LeRoy Reimagines SMiLE

In the same context as "Reimagines Gershwin", I take SMiLE songs, and re-record them, making changes when I have a new idea.

Keep in mind, what you are about to download (Pleeeeaassseee do! haha) is unfinished, and some vocals have yet to be recorded, but most if not all of the music has been
recorded.

Another quick note is the way in which I compiled this, I actually recorded everything in separate parts, then put them together like a fan-mix.
It was actually VERY fun to compile, but the recording took about 9 hours in total, and i'm really happy with just about everything, besides a few mistakes Tongue

Well, enjoy, and please give some feedback so I can improve the finished product! KEEP IN MIND, THERE ARE A FEW MIXING/COMPILING ISSUES AS WELL I KNOW!! HAHA

The way it is compiled is...

1. The Barnyard Suite: Features "H&V, Do you dig worms?, Barnyard, OMP/Sunshine, and Cabinessence."
2. The Child Suite: Features "He Gives Speaches/She's Goin' Bald, Wonderful, CIFOTM, and Surf's Up"
3. The Elements Suite: Features "Vegatables, Holidays (Tones), Wind Chimes, Mrs. O'Learys Cow and Love to say DaDa"

Please Comment and Listen, Especially since I spent 4 hours PMing links a few days ago :D

It'll mean a lot !

BTW: Wonderful was INCREDIBLY hard to do, but I wanted to make a "melancholy" version.

Would this be suitable for a man going into a self-imposed ban on Smile music until I get the boxset in my sweaty mitts?

Absolutely, actually, I find it helps "finish" SMiLE before we hear the "Final" version.

BTW: Good vibrations (still WIP, and not included yet) is sounding WAY better then I expected!)

"please give some feedback so I can improve the finished product"

I'm trying to find a way to tell this so it doesn't sound too harsh... But you might like to pay more attention to the vocals, and re-record some of them.

This made me laugh and smile Smiley Very fun to listen to! It's like a very lo-fi indiepop twisted SMiLE. Its unique(sometimes) expression and its flaws makes it at times so much less stiff and dead-like almost all other BB/SMiLE covers. Wish the piano had a different sound, loved the playing itself of it, but the sound I didn't like. The vocals on Wonderful were quite quite impressive. Vocals other places, not so. Surf's up vocals are great Smiley Backing vocals are perfect and out of tune in a most pleasant way! Also really liked the lead vocals, the alternative melody you came up with at the high parts was of good choice. I liked it best when it sounded less like SMiLE and more like a something really strange something incarnation of SMiLE. So soothing for a brain filled up with strong coughing medicin Smiley.

@SloopJohnB
I understand some of the vocals are quite "amatur" but
That's part of the experience in my opinion.

@Puppet-Pony
Unfortunately I'm not in possession of a real piano, only a keyboard, but I made due with it, I've actually never taken a piano lesson! Wonderful was really tough to pull off because I've only written 3 or 4 new vocal arangements, then all the parts had to be recorded. I think you got the full effect of the album, it's not trying to BE a cover of smile, its supposed to be an expression of SMiLE.

What kind of music do you usually write? Anything on the same scale of arrangement? How did you record, computer, software?

I normally write music on guitar or piano first, but in Wonderful's case, I wrote out each part, not normal for me :D
I'm actually just starting to do more Brian-esque vocal arrangements in my songs, like my new song "This is Love" (not out yet Tongue)

I recorded it with my computer, using Mixcraft, i find it to work perfectly for my style of producing.

Can someone make a "chart" of how bad/good the vocals are on each track so I can decided whether to re do them or not?

Here's my opinions (haha):

THE BARNYARD SUITE:

H&V (Unfinished): Okay
Do you like worms: Good
Barnyard: Great
Old Master Painter: Okay
Cabin Essence: None Yet Tongue

THE CHILD SUITE:

He Gives Speaches: Okay (purposely silly :D)
Wonderful: Wonderful (haha)
Child is The Father Of The Man: Good
Surfs Up: Beautifully Amateur

THE ELEMENTS:
Vegatables: Good
Holidays: None (Ever?!)
Wind Chimes: Okay
Fire: Like an angel. (None haha)
Love To Say Dada: Bad. I'm not gonna use any vocals on it besides (a-wah-wah-woah-wah)

what would make it true to smile is if it remained unfinished, haha.

I think it's gonna turn out that way Tongue

I got signed a few weeks ago, and between that and physical problems, SMiLE covers are the least important Sad

But... TSS... however....

Hey, I listened to some of it ! It's really, really funny !

I love how you sum up some parts, playing, say 2 instruments instead of 5, or singing 2 harmonies instead of 4, but that works anyway !

That's fun !  Afro
