The best response I read was on another music site, when he just had had that stroke:

'oh no, Clarence is 30 ft tall and he's not meant to die!'

...which sums it up for me. The Big Man, super-reliable, always recognizable, doing his thing on countless great songs... can't think of a single highlight. Whether it's his extended solo on Jungleland, or his lovely 'burp' on Hungry Heart...

One of the best sidemen ever. May he rest in peace...

Oh man.

Me and the upstairs neighbour might have just played the entire Born To Run album at the same time. RIP Big Man.

Sad news, indeed. His sax was a part of my childhood. RIP big fella.

I don't see how the E Street Band can continue without him. In my mind, Clarence Clemons made the "Bruce Springsteen sound".

For some reason this one got to me.  I am reasonably a Bruce fan, not a fanatic  -- love "Darkness", "The River" and "Nebraska" (which has no Clarence).  Certainly appreciate some early stuff and "USA" and "Tunnel" and saw him live twice ('81 and '85).  But when Danny Federici passed on, it was like -- "oh that's a drag", though I  was quite moved by the Youtube video of Danny's last gig ("Sandy").  But with Clarence it's like a Big Light went out.  A large spirit (as well as big man!) is gone, and I really felt it.  Anyway, there's a rockin' rent party at the pearly gates today....
