Well that was confusing . It get's 5 stars yet the reviewer seems to be saying it's essentially it's too creepy. Undecided

That was one thing that I hoped wouldn't be lost in the release as a result of material sourced from the actual reels and not copies of copies of copies. The oppressive, malevolent sound and feel of Smile is STILL there. The booming bass, the strange vocal melodies, the exotic percussion. I'd say the reviewer is absolutely correct. I've been saying the same thing about Smile for years. This was the dark side of the psychedelic experience at least a year before Syd Barrett and Skip Spence, and certainly before the Beach Boys made their own stamp with Smiley Smile.

Naughty man!  Shocked

5 stars to Alexis Petridis (Guardian) for suppressing his natural tendency to be funny-funny about everything (and he can be quite funny, see his BWPS review from Sept 04).

The first time I heard the mix where the bicycle rider theme is played, then has that bass kick in and replay?  Oh my.  Scared the hell out of me.  Very creepy.  Hell half the album is creepy.

Would YouTube remove it if I did an unboxing? After uploading the MOJO single, it doesn't seem to like me that much...

It shouldn't, as long as you don't play music.  Just you playing with a box, even an unreleased box, shouldn't be grounds for banishment.  That's just my logic thinking, though.

Son, don't wait till the break of day....

As far as why he re-recorded the song in '67.  Brian, in my honest humble i don't know what i'm talking about opinion, has always taken the BUSINESS of his songwriting very seriously.  This is a guy who doesn't throw anything away.  He might pop up with a song he wrote 40 years ago, at any moment.  He re-recorded it because he wanted a tape of it.  He collects his own tapes, his own songs.  He has a respectful, business like love for all his creations and although I'm sure he wouldn't be too keen on talking about it, i'll bet he remembers about everything he ever wrote.

Somebody told a story once on here about meeting Brian at the airport or something in 1984 with a copy of the sheet music of "Still I Dream of It", and Brian asked him where he got that, then told him he'd never write anything that great again.  I think he's always been proud, even if he doesn't admit it, of the songs he wrote.

Very nicely said.

You know, these days especially, every day I am so thankful for the gifts that Brian has given us!!!

You'll just have to make your inferior, later unboxing video stand out in some way.  Like have a chick in a bikini unbox it while you videotape.

I let out a small scream, unintentionally, when I saw that picture.....really glad no one was around LOL

(I've seen it before in the promos obviously, but it's great to see that it's finally getting in the hands of us fans!)

Just listened to the two 45s and one track from the CD set (saving the rest for a get together tomorrow night). Woah, this stuff sounds absolutely beautiful. Would post some photos, but I'm on my way out. Besides, it would only spoil the surprise for y'all.

I have the full box set in hand now. It's truly difficult to describe what this is like. Walking into the record store, seeing it on the counter, picking it up and buying it ...

And the book. My god, the book.

Can anyone who already has the box confirm whether or not there's any sort of download code inside?
