Yikes, Phil Cohen on the bloo spreading his ideas that smile won't come out. LOL

I believe Nostradamus predicted the rise of the Anti-Smile sometime in the late months of 2011...

No, but apparently Nostradamus HAS predicted that the world is coming to an end next year, so it would be a nice idea to issue this box set while the people that would enjoy it are still living.

Jeez Phil, you must really light up the joint everytime you step into the room...

LOL

Remember that song, "Jesus Wants Me For A Sunbeam" ?  I'm thinking He'll grant Phil a pass.

This thread in a nutshell, we should take no news as good news because the only news from Capitol we would get right now is the box is canceled, so as of right now, SMiLE is coming out. We should get back to talking about the music or something Beach Boys related instead of arguing about when the box set is coming out. "Heroes and Villains" anybody?

I am all for differing opinions but I do think the raking of Fishmonk and Phil over the coals has gone a little bit over the edge. So their opinions are not in agreement with everyone's proven "facts". This is something called LIFE. If you're coming on here and can't take a dissenting opinion, no matter how unbelievably asinine it may be, might I suggest leaving the computer behind for a while? This is a BEACH BOYS message board. We wouldn't be able to agree on what day it is let alone the specifics of anything Smile-related no matter how hard we tried.

Sure, I'll admit to being a bit more biased in favor of Fishmonk and Phil because somehow or another their viewpoints have been considered "less worthy". I've been in that boat before (with much worse consequences) if you've ever read my criticism of Brian. You can disagree all you want. We're not here for phony complacency. But carrying out the equivalent of a cyber lynch mob on two folks because you disagree? That's a bit too far.

There are ways to voice your disapproval of Phil and The Artist Formerly Known As Fishmonk's opinions without resulting to base insults. C'mon, guys. It seems once a week everyone around here becomes jerks. It makes this board frustrating to read.

Yes us "dreamers" are the ones that are clearly in the wrong!! LOL

The reason that I think of many of you guys as "dreamers" is this: let's say, that the "Smile" box doesn't get released this year(or in 2012), yet Capitol doesn't officially cancel the release. Then you guys(forever the optimists) will still be here in 2013, insisting that the release is imminent, and anyone who doesn't agree with you is pessimistic, impatient or a spoiled brat demanding instant gratification. I also think that the discussions of increasingly unrealistic fantasies about Smile's history, is a desperate attempt to fan the embers of a discussion that would otherwise die out.
As for the idea that I'm spreading pessimism onto the forum at Brian's website, it's (generally) only people from this forum who discuss The Beach Boys at Brian's forum. There seems to be comparatively little interest in The Beach Boys over there, since many of those people at that forum discovered Brian Wilson through his solo career. I suppose that there are also people who discovered Paul McCartney through his recordings with Wings or his 21st century solo albums. In the ears of many listeners, an artist's prime or heyday is the album or single where that listener "discovered" the artist. It's like, I "discovered" Siouxsie & The Banshees through later, more tuneful, more commercial albums such as "Tinderbox" & "Through The Looking Glass", and I perceive those albums to be the group's prime. Most listeners would disagree, and prefer the group's early punk-influenced efforts.

Wouldn't you concede that it's more than a bit insulting to call people "dreamers" simply because they are taking Capitol's word at face value? You seem to WANT to be pessimistic, when all the concrete evidence we have points to an optimistic outcome. So you interpret inactivity (no new press release!) or non-events (Brian said "maybe"!) as "signs" that all is going wrong, and the box will "never" be released (which you've said several times now). On the "dreamer" side, Capitol said in March that the SMiLE set would be released "this year." They've never qualified that, or backed away from it, or promised it any sooner or later than "this year." I don't know about the other "dreamers" but until I see REAL evidence pointing to a delay or secret cancellation, I'm willing to take them at their word -- which, again, was "this year" and NOT "Summer" or "August" or anything else.

However, if the set is NOT released this year, and 2012 arrives and there's been no word, no updates, no box -- THEN I'd be very upset, because Capitol would have officially broken their promise. I think MOST people here would be upset, and not deluded, starry-eyed Kool-Aid drinkers, as you presume. You make these assumptions about us "dreamers" the same way you make assumptions about the Smile box -- with absolutely no evidence to back them up.

As to Smile, should it be cancelled or delayed, it's no big deal. I'd be no worse off than I am now as I write this. As I said in an earlier post, I waited and wondered about Smile since 1972, so I've waited a very long time. If I have to wait longer or give up entirely, it won't break my heart. Except for a few new mixes and better fidelity, I think I've heard pretty much what there is to offer. It won't be the end of the world and life will go on. As far as I see it, no news is good news at this point, and I expect a release this year. I have no reason to think anything else as of today.

The only thing i am dreaming about is how awesome the box set is going to be, if it doesn't come out, well then I will find a great fan mix of SMiLE and be content with it. This set of music is among the greatest ever made and it is impossible to be not excitied that all the material will be mix properly for the first time ever.

Absolutely agree! The greatest rock/pop album never to be released, so I think people are perfectly entitled to dream a little about a forthcoming release.
