I haven't posted here since the box set was released to register my opinion....but I just want to say this is the greatest box set of all time.  I can say that without question.

Thank you Brian and Mark and all those who compiled this masterpiece.

Could someone please post a list of the differences between some of the songs on the various disc sets + Itunes.
Or point me to a page.

Thanks!! Smiley

Essentially.....

If you buy the 2 disc, you aren't getting a single second of music that's not on the boxset, apart from digital copies of H&V Part 1 & 2. This is easily remedied, if, like me, you buy the offending items off iTunes or 7digital or emusic or something for £2 tops. Easy peasy.

What you're getting, and what is confusing you, is edited highlights from the sessions disc. But there is no new music on it.

All roads lead to Kokomo. Exhaustive research in time travel has conclusively proven that there is no alternate universe WITHOUT Kokomo. It would've happened regardless.

I remember reading somewhere that the standalone vinyl album set was different from the one in the box set (?).

I believe the 2cd version has a track from side 4 of the LP--the Cabinessence backing track.

bsten - the only difference between the stand-alone and box version of the vinyl is there's a different photograph used in the gatefold or something....same audio content.

By the way, over at the IMWAN forum(where I'm banned), people are speculating as to why the reconstruction of "Smile" (on Disc One) is being presented in mono sound. Perhaps one of you who is still a member of IMWAN(Andrew Doe, perhaps?) could explain to the IMWAN folks:
1. Brian intended to offer the album only in mono(& fake "Duophonic" stereo) back in 1967.
2.Several of the selections("Good Vibrations","Wonderful" & the vocal version of "You Are My Sunshine") don't exist in a remixable-for-stereo format, due to the loss of the multitracks and/or live-during-mono-mixdown overdubs.

The IMWAN proprietor("Linda") brought an end to the Doe vs. Cohen hostilities on her forum by banishing me, but she also lost access to my knowledge, so questions being raised by IMWAN members go unanswered.

I see on last.fm the top tracks have all become smile tracks, replacing sh*t like kokomo. In the overall charts the BB jumped up like 50 places, and listeners for Our Prayer went up 5,322% since the release of the box. Listeners of Wonderful, 1,950%. Wow.

And production aside, I’d so much rather hear a 14 year old David Marks shred some guitar on Chug-a-lug than hear a 51 year old Mike Love sing about bangin some chick in a swimming pool.-rab2591

For awhile around 2006/07, "Unreleased Backgrounds" was higher than 409.

Different inner sleeves:

Sleeve 1 has brians note on one side and the picture of him behind the hour galss, and Sleeve 2 has the lyrics (no drawings).

And while I'm here, is it bad that I made a Duophonic Mix of SMiLE just for the hell of it?
