yeah. you could argue that they really only did the 5 discs for ardent fans who want to hear more. but if you're like me...then 5 just ain't enough.

In this day and age why not? Make them available as downloads for a couple of hundred bucks. The ultra-deluxe, complete completists' Smile!

Hahaha, can you imagine? Alan and Mark, upon noting fan reaction to the box, unleash the multitracks and say, 'You think it's so easy, YOU do it!'  Grin

There it is.

But we need the multitracks for every album, not just Smile.

And for all the bands too.

There's quite a lot of Beatles multitracks out there, a few Stones and Who. Pretty cool. Hearing a Vocals + Orchestra only version of Something was one of the best musical experiences I've had.

There is most definitely a small killing to be made by releasing every last thing in the vault via digital distribution.  No need for elaborate packaging, so the cost would be minimal - I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that the Beach Boys, of all bands, haven't caught on to this yet.

What? For Someone to ask why no Truck Drivin' Man isolated vocal? Or you expected someone like me to come across with a negative tone in their voice?

They coulda woulda shoulda parked it right on Disc 1 - Track 25 - 'Smile Backing Vocals Montage'.
Or on Disc 3 - right next to the Cabinessence 'Verse', 'Chorus', and 'Tag' tracks.
Or on Disc 4 - anywhere.

Not sure why this interesting part was left off.  Would like to know though!

I, I love the colorful clothes she wears, and she's already working on my brain. I only looked in her eyes, but I picked up something I just can't explain. I, I bet I know what she’s like, and I can feel how right she’d be for me. It’s weird how she comes in so strong, and I wonder what she’s picking up from me. I hope it’s good, good, good, good vibrations, yeah!!

Are the multis definitely gone?  The Truck Drivin' Man vocals definitely seem more prominent in the mix than ever before on TSS.

But I've heard it (almost) isolated. At least much more prominent. Wasn't it posted on this very site a couple of years ago?

Truck drivin' man do what you can
High-tail your load off the road
Out of night-life, I'm a gas man

I don't believe I gotta grieve
I'm out of luck
With a buck and a booth
Catchin' on to the truth
In the vast* past, last gasp

Right in the dust, trust that you must
Catch as catch can

About a month ago, we talked (again!) about the Truck Drivin' Man section on another thread and I asked when it was originally recorded - either 1966 or if it was later added to Cabinessence in 1968. Nobody could answer at the time. Now we know for sure! I assume you just found out from Linett or Boyd, Andrew. And since it was recorded in 1968, it makes a little sense that it wasn't included in the Smile box. But I still think it shoulda been included anyway!  Tongue

Totally agree. I'd love to have all the multitracks for all of their albums. Especially Smile.

Yeah, I have an mp3 of it somewhere.  And I oops'ed it many years ago too.  No reason Linett could not have popped this isolated section on the Smile set, other than it wasn't a real Smile recording.  OK, enough!!  Grin

Mark and Alan did figure out how to cover that one-beat dead space in the "Wind Chimes" transition: cover the hole with plate reverb!  Corny but effective.  Also a very "what would Brian do?" move.

I just put that dead space back in, it's one of my all time favorite musical transitions.
