Anyone receive their CD + signed Lithograph set?  Word is that the lithographs are arriving all bent due to the crappy mailing envelope they used.  With no cardboard backing!

Totally surprised they didn't put it in a mailing tube......

Legit annoyed with people saying "it doesn't have the transitions like on the Purple Chick mix" or saying "where's this transition from BWPS that didn't even exist in '67."

Complaints are fine, I've got a handful of my own, but complaints like this come from a fairly ignorant/irrational place.

Just another thing that surprised me a bit: He Gives Speeches music and lyrics are credited to Brian Wilson. I always thought Van Dyke Parks wrote those lyrics.

Hmmm...that is strange, considering that he's credited for "She's Goin' Bald."

I'm actually not all that surprised - "He Gives Speeches" always seemed to me like Brian attempting to write lyrics like Van Dyke's but not quite getting there.

The fact that Van Dyke is credited on "She's Goin' Bald" is much more of a head-scratcher, as none of those lyrics ever struck me as particularly Parksian.

The Purple Chick mix was the worst thing to happen to Smile fan mixes, bar none. It mirrors the BWPS structure to a ridiculous extent, that's not how a lot of these songs were originally recorded or meant to be

Why do you hate the Purple Chick mix so much, it's not the first time I read you being crude with this fan mix. I consider as one as the best fanmixes ever.

deepdiscountCD says the box has shipped and it should arrive Wednesday by the end of the day.

I can hardly wait to get this up on the shelf where I can admire it forever and ever

DeepDiscount sent me a delivery email today too!

Unfortunately I got the free shipping and will have to wait 5-10 business days...

But...I'll be visiting Best Buy on Nov 1st for the 2 CD set to tide me over!

After I do receive my box set I'll be drolling all over it...

And I'll be making another SMiLE mix like everybody else...Smiley

You know those "Do not remove under penalty of law" tags you see on furniture?? Well...take those things seriously. Van Dyke got really mad one day after he spilled some Diet Pepsi on his divan....he got so mad that he took a knife...and cut that tag off. Next thing he knew, the police surrounded his house.

Oh those tags...I KNOW what happens when you cut off those tags...

They're forced to or legit risk losing their job. Retail is a hellish nightmare, go easy on them.

You just tell them "no, thanks". Not too difficult.

That's probably where I'll end up buying it.

During lunch today, I strolled down the street to a hole-in-a basement record store-- the last in my small NYS town. I checked around, hoping maybe the greasy, middle-aged Brit who runs the place would have just taken some single or two-disc SMiLE sets out of the box and thrown them on the shelf, not caring about the official release date for the mouldy ol' Beach Boys.

Nope. No CDs. No vinyl (the whole box will arrive via Amazon by Tuesday, God willing).

But still.

So my friend buys Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs on vinyl, while I sulk. And I ask "Have you gotten the Beach Boys' SMiLE yet?"

"Sorry, what?"

I explain, briefly and as best I can, the release day and various formats (my friend later told me the look on my face was withering).

"That's something I would have to order," he replied, seemingly bemused by the strange tastes of the pudgy twentysomething. "Not many people listen to the Beach Boys anymore. Not worth buying it. Have to be careful with me money, right?"

I mumbled something, and assured him that I didn't need HIM to order me ANYTHING.

I didn't mean to offend anyone, but he was greasy. And British. He was listening to Rush. And his store also sells weed paraphernalia and pornography. Alright, those last two don't bother me. But everything else does.

C'mon Tuesday...

Holy Hell.

The drummer (he's the best i've ever seen, literary) loves Rush, he constantly puts the Beach Boys down, and I inform him that...

No Beach Boys = No Good Vibrations = No Progression in Music = No Progressive Rock = NO RUSH

Most of them seemingly can't understand songwriting. Only wankery. Ceaseless, unmerciful wankery.

I first found this board when BWPS news started to leak and have now stalked it endlessly with all of the new SMiLE posts being published.  I am truly geeked for this to arrive from Amazon Canada.  I can't wait to annoy all of those around me all over again.

I've listened some more tracks from the new box. The new Heroes And Villains and Wonderful mixes sound great, also the HAV stereo mix.
I find it strange that the box does not contain a clean Barnyard with vocals mix...I'm already trying to reconstruct it using the instrumental and the disc 1 mix, but after :35 every vocal part is missing. So, do you think it might become available anywhere in the future, maybe along with a digital download?

I have the 2CD set on order from amazon. I can't justify buying the deluxe set because (a) I don't have £120 to spare and (b) I haven't owned a record player for about 15 years!! Any word if the tracks are going to be available to purchase via download as my masterplan is to make a third CD comprised of the best stuff from the extra cds and vinyls from the big box. I even have the sleeve and case from an old Smile boot to keep it in!
