I want to visit London for a day, then maybe visit a coastal town and then travel up north in England or Scotland. Been hearing mixed reviews about Wales.

Glad to read it's being enjoyed so much...Mark and Alan really did themselves proud with the mixing & editing on this one, IMO!

Well of course here and there there's an artistic decision I'm not that happy with... but the sheer JOY of having this thing which is clearly a labor of love by Misters Linett and Boyd is so ENORMOUS that I intend to keep that for myself and only tell what I LOVE ABOUT IT! Smiley

Brighton is your safe bet for the coastal town! It's lovely.... and also where I hail from, so a little biased Tongue

Just sent it to my friend who had never been too fond of some of the SMiLE stuff. His comments were:

FFP: Did you think there were some songs that could have done with more Lead vocals?

HH: no

FFP: Final thoughts?

HH: Better than Pet Sounds but I prefer Holland

He also says it sounds complete...

Very interesting oublic opinion, although he has never heard BWPS

I just thought of something. I'm going to be listening to the CDs in my car a ton, and they don't have cases. I'm either going to have to bring that whole tape box folder into my car and likely ruin it, have the CDs in my car loose and likely ruin them, or burn CDR copies of them and waste money, or buy CD cases and waste money. (inb4 "first world problem")

Well, a blank CD is like what, a cent? 10 cents? The time you spend burning them, now that's the issue Wink

I was thinking of this too which is why the digital copy is going to be incredibly key in my preservation of this set.  I'm ecstatic that they thought to include a DC in this release and wish more bands that compiled box sets would do the same because they are quite cumbersome to lug in and out of your vehicle (and for most people their car stereo represents the finest stereo equipment they have available to them).  I do have a lot of box sets in my collection however and have never had any issues with discs being rendered scratched or damaged due to not having individual cases or whatnot.  Silver Compact Discs as oppose to cheaper CD-Rs are actually more durable than one would think in my experience.

Obvious question time
: For those who already have the set in both formats (2CD and box) is there any need for me to go out on Tuesday and grab the two disc set?  I apologize if this has been asked a million times by now but I don't want to scroll too far in this thread because it seems full of spoilers.  Thanks in advance.

The 2-CD set doesn't have anything the box doesn't except for different session edits, but I'm sure those can be pieced back together for posterity from the box set.

I am mortified, and ashamed. I apologize to any and all offen
ded by my comment. There is no excuse for interrupting the full enjoyment of this special time. The only reason I mentioned his land of origin is because I was surprised, knowing that the Boys enjoyed such popularity in the UK and knowing of so many fine UK Beach Boys fans from lurking around here. However, by substituting "black guy" for "Brit," I can truly understand the depth of my transgression. Unacceptable. I am sorry, and understand if my posts are no longer welcome. I will shut up now Embarrassed Lips Sealed

How can you all ignore such a heartfelt apology?

Hey, I'm a Brit, a big fat greasy one.

It's cool Marcella

According to Brian's site the box set contains a digital copy of the album.

THE SMiLE SESSIONS BOX SET
This package contains 5 CDs, double LP, two 7″ singles and digital version. An astounding 139 tracks brings you into the studio with Brian and the boys. You’ll see how Brian built these songs from the ground up, and discs devoted to “Heroes and Villains” and “Good Vibrations” alone show Brian’s incredible productions for these two masterpieces. Also included in a 60page hardbound book with rare photos and original essays.

PS: Thanks for the fast reply Real Beach Boy  Smiley

But people who actually have that disagree.... what I think they mean is that the box comes in a digital format

Yeah, I could be wrong on this, but I was under the impression that the few lucky folks with boxes in hand had denied that download codes (or similar) were included.  Huh

I have a Zune mp3 player that has no music on it because I have a Mac laptop and they're not compatible. I think I'll just load the Smile CDs onto my mom's PC and have a Smile-only mp3 player!

Digital copies? You know you can basically rip this thing once without damaging the discs (unless you're a total klutz), right? And you get to control the quality etc. that way? And also make CD-R copies if you so desire?
