Going back now and rereading, to correct my poor vision...I guess I'll have to remain unobservant unless someone wants to PM me!

There might be one other person that could BE... am I warmer?

LOL

I find  VERY funny the allusions to him, while trying not to mention his full name.
He deserves every bit of disgust and contempt that he gets.
Of course, maybe not mentioning his name is a better way to go, so he won't think people will ever lose the enmity they feel for what he did.

Moreover: if the basic tapes or hard disks are finalized, they should be driven to the pressing plant by Brink's, surrounded by 20 Hummers with expert SWAT teams, and a group of about 6 Strike Fighters hovering above the whole fleet. Nothing less will suffice.

If you were running for office, you'd get my vote...

As an aside, I've gone 4 or 5 days without listening to ANY Smile song...not sure if I can wait too long...I'm hoping for that aforementioned May release...Praying I mean...I've had Look in my head ever since I've gone out of my way to not hear that stuff...I guess it's the musical feeling of anticipation that the song evokes...

I'm looking forward to having SMiLE recordings that are of the original high musical and sonic standard that they were recorded in instead of scratchy acetates from too many years ago that 'live' in my collection. The compilation producers are Mark Linett and Alan Boyd who both have a deep loyalty to the musical and historical value of 'everything Beach Boys.'
As the original creator and producer of this amazing recorded music is Brian Wilson, it gives Mark and Alan a wonderful opportunity to be involved in the restoration and packaging of a most important American pop music treasure.

O.K. - All this posting got me to pick up the Badman book and I came across page 182 concerning Saturday 29th, 1967 where Derek Taylor says that "Vegetables" is the new single, NOT "Heroes And Villains", and that "Wonderful" (!) will be the B-side.  I might just be REALLY slow because I'm sure I read this before but it never clicked.  So here goes my wish for the two vinyl singles that are going to be issued with the SMiLE Sessions box set: instead of repros of the "Good Vibrations" & "Heroes And Villains" singles as they were released in 66/67, I hope (wish/pray) they do "Heroes And Villains I & II" with the mix coming from maybe one of the long talked about acetates, like the one Bruce Johnston had/has, and "Vegetables/Wonderful".  This would be more like what might have happened if SMiLE had been completed and released in 1967.

Another thing - I do wish that someone would do a new mix of "Vegetables".  I like the mix on the Good Vibrations box (isn't this basically a mix that Mark Linett put together?), but it just seems kinda under-done.  Isn't "Vegetables" 2nd only to "Heroes And Villains" in terms of session time and music recorded.  I would love to hear a mix that buzzes like a bee hive - with lots of humming and whistling and singing and chomping.  Couldn't they at least add in the "whistling & chomping section" from the "Vegetables" (stereo extended mix) on Hawthorne, CA.  This is just a wish - not intended as a put-down or criticism, and only the best to Mr. Linett for his great work.

This sounds ominously like B.J.'s acetates don't have any revelations on them, although he has stated multiple times that he has a different H & V mix. Surely he would have noticed if there were significant differences in the song assemblies themselves, although perhaps his alternate mix is not on one of his acetates. One might think that of all the extant acetates (Bruce's, Jardine's, Durrie Parks', etc.) at least a couple would have major differences, since Brian was making and playing them for people throughout the period. Or they once existed but didn't make it to the present day, for whatever misbegotten reasons.... Sad

Not necessarily that they don't have any revelations on them but that the quality is bad. For all we know there may be a different edit of H&V on his edits which could be easily reconstructed from other cleaner session material by Mark. I can feel myself getting carried away with this new alt heroes idea. Best put on the brakes a bit! After all nobody's actually trumpeting the unearthing of a new heroes besides the slightly ambiguous comments from Mark in the interview. We'll just have to wait and see!

Here's my guess at the release date: before the 2012 Grammy cutoff, which is I think early October.  Gotta be a shoe-in for the Historical award.

Unless, of course, there's a New Vaudeville Band 1966 sessions box due this summer.
It'll be released on December 21st, 2012. It will be released at the exact same time everywhere on planet Earth. Women and children will rejoice, singing the praises of Brian Wilson. Grown men will weep. Then the Sun will crash into the Earth, and end any trace of human civilisation.

And before the Sun makes contact with the Earth, in that one brief fraction of a second...we will have world peace.  Smiley

I just meant that you would think he might differentiate between sound quality distinctions and actual structural differences in the song itself, if there are any, assuming he is as intimately familiar with the material as many of us are. Huh

I once had a dream that I heard the entire SMiLE album, as released in 1967. Complete with lyrics in Child Is The Father Of The Man, and I Love To Say Dada. It would be a trip if my dream turned out to be the SMiLE that is going to be released.  LOL

I see what you mean. You'd imagine he might point out that he contributed some unheard material to the project. Then again he might not be clued up to what has and hasn't been booted, or they might all be keeping their lips sealed as to the nature of the content until the tracklist is released. All this talk of the BB's own acetates is tantalizing indeed. I do feel my confidence growing that we will hear some stuff that's new to us all.

It seems almost certain, based on the various statements from Linett esp., that there will at the very least be a couple of new tidbits. And, I ask everyone here, is there ever a greater source of delight for all of us than hearing a freshly unearthed SMiLE fragment for the 1st time? Wink  I realize of course that there are a lot of very potent pleasures that life can afford, so the fact that I even ask this question is a testament to the magic of this music, and accounts for its never-ending fascination and legendary stature. It makes Pet Sounds stink, that's how good it is! (Love me some Pet Sounds).

Using acetates is a great thing.
The two last Monkees reissues on Rhino Handmade also have many bonus tracks from acetates, and they sound great.
Hope this SMiLE release will use some gems from acetates.

These days alot of work can be done on acetates removing crackle, ticks and pops. If the tracks themselves are relatively still in good nick, they can work wonders.

I guess you're right. And probably that's why Al mentioned in the now legendary interview, that he'd like to see the Beach Boys do the Grammies this year.....
