The 'Running Man' sequence that was mapped out a few posts ago all of a sudden jarred my memory of when I was first on BB's message boards. Does anyone remember a story someone wrote about how all the BB's were still alive, and they had a grand plan to kill Landy (I think it was Landy)? It was called 'Revenge' or something like that. Anyone know if it's still around?

Obviously, the airtight seal of silence & secretiveness concerning the "Smile" box is a precaution, because the premature revealing of any info concerning the contents might cause the project to collapse, given The Beach Boys' history of fractious feuding and litigation. If this absolute silence from Capitol & the compiler helps the project come to be, then we may someday be thankful. Still, the bottom line, is, that I'll believe that the "Smile" box set is real when I hold it in my hands.

Be prepared to believe sometime this summer. It'll happen, whether you want it to or not.

BTW, "absolute silence from Capitol" ?  We know the various formats, the composition of two of those formats, the likely template for the "closest possible approach" CD, we know that the band is co-operating fully, we know that all possible sources are being auditioned or researched. We know a rough release date - summer - and we can make a good guess at the price. Not what I'd call anything like silence... and that's without me telling you anything else I know behind the scenes.*  Grin

I'd bet money that it will. This means that in less than 90 days we will be ripping the plastic wrap off the boxset and listening to crisp-clean SMiLE songs.

I can't wait!

I, I bet I know what she’s like, and I can feel how right she’d be for me. It’s weird how she comes in so strong, and I wonder what she’s picking up from me. I hope it’s good, good, good, good vibrations, yeah!!

Al said that?  When?

At a recent gig he pulled (Berkely comes to mind (but I may be wrong)) - I think it was to support record day or the Don't Fight The Sea single.

Fellow posters wrote that during a Q&A Al said that we can expect SMiLE by July. I'm trying to find the thread, but searching for "Al Jardine SMiLE July" yields too many off-the-wall threads lol

So I'm just going to go by this site for both the release date and price because both are perfect.  Grin

Yeah, I was the "fellow poster" who was in Berkeley on RSD when Al said that.  I think July is kinda aggressive though, but who knows.

Well, he was right that this thing was coming out in the first place. I'd say he's right on the money about the approximate release date.

Eh, personally, I think everything for this release is finished. Right now, Alan Boyd, Mark Linett, Mike Love, Brian Wilson, etc are all sitting around a computer screen laughing their asses off at all of us going nuts on this board. Unfortunately with all the angst and adolescent drama on this board I'd say that the chances of us listening to this set sane will be near zero.

I would like to mention one possibility. What if "Smile" came closer to completion than what previous official & bootleg releases of the material have led us to believe?

I don't know.  Maybe it's done.  Maybe it's not done.  Let's not forget that Messrs. Boyd and Linett have suggested in recent weeks that they still might be looking for lost tapes (e.g., the infamous 'Paul Bramsem' tape boxes, as well as some supposed recordings in the possession of 'Desmond Jones' mentioned on this forum).

One would think that most of the artwork and packaging would be done by now, though, even if the final tracklist is still subject to change (and/or last minute discoveries).

Not just previous releases, but also every interview with anyone connected with the project since 1967 have led us to believe... which would be a conspiracy theory of such dimension to make all the Zen stuff look exceedingly small beer.

That would be a an implausibility, not a possibility, not to mention dismissing the constant observation by anyone who's ever worked on the tapes: many vocals are missing.  Grin
