I was going through part of my collection of LPs today when I came across something I haven't seen in a while.  Several years ago, I was lucky enough to find a circa 1966 Beach Boys concert tour booklet.  In the booklet is one of my favorite Brian pictures... and its strange that this picture doesn't seem to be around too much on the net.

I think this is from the same session of photos that are featured on the Beach Boys Party! album.  Great shot of Brian in front of some awesome vintage recording equipment.

Nice shirt!

The king at his throne, I reckon.

It looks like the same shirt as on Party but Brian's wearing his Beatles bangs here. Alway interesting to see someone transitioning between looks.

This pic was included in the collage on the front of the Winter 2002 issue of "Break Away", the (now defunct as far as I know) official Brian Wilson newsletter.

Missed this one,

This is from the control booth of Western Studio 3.  A nice view of the Bill Putnam designed console.  12 inputs, 3 output busses.

Or could it possibly be Studio 2 (where the "Party!" album was cut)?
That console, I believe, was identical to Studio 3's, and now resides...at Your Place Or Mine, in the care of Mark L.

They aren't quite identical...very close in terms of specs, but that's definitely 3 in that picture.  The easiest way to tell is that the buss select switch isn't integrated into the preamp module on this board, on Mark's it is.

Hmmm...maybe "Party!" was mixed in Studio 3, even though it was recorded in Studio 2?

I figured I'd take the original scan I made and make it a bit bigger... the photo above is a bit hard to see.  The original photo from the tour booklet is a bit grainy, so you may see some of that, but here it is:
