Another cool page, these sketchy years are now becoming clearer.
With regard to the early 70s era which had stuff recorded at Brians house, is this a definitive list or is there other stuff undocumented that he might have done when the Beach Boys weren't there do you think?

There are many sessions for which no AFM exists or at least none that was found. A good example-the union doesn't appear to have paperwork on file for most of the 71 American Spring album sessions.  There is also missing paperwork for sessions in the early years-such as the Little Deuce Coupe album and Shut Down Vol II. There are also suspicious AFMs-like one for Feb 20 1964 with a huge number of tracks on it.  Most likely there are missing Feb 64 sessions.  Perhaps they didn't file or perhaps someone didn't file the paperwork in the right place, etc, etc. There are also a number of vocal sessions for which there is no known paperwork (doesn't mean paperwork doesn't exist somewhere-but hasn't yet been found). Perhaps AFTRA might have some....People often didn't do a good job of keeping files. The William Morris agency represented the BBs for most of the 60s, but when I contacted them I was told that all the paperwork (tour itineraries, contract negotiations, etc-was history-thrown out to save space)

How come that the Adult/Child orchestra session on March 11 is one of the last things they recorded for the album? Shouldn't that be first?

You add strings and other "sweetening" at the end not the beginning.

i see a listing for dennis's dreamer under summer with this added "before 15th June". was this a session for the released version or something recorded but not used?
reason i ask is this thread i posted a long time ago:  http://smileysmile.net/board/index.php/topic,2728.0.html
the date on the cassette is may 26th, 1977 and as far as my ears can tell the version on the tape is the same as the lp version. just curious.

Thank you.
I was under the impression that Dick Reynolds recorded the orchestra tracks and the BB only had to add the vocals.

When a song is noted as being recorded "before February 31st", that's the date it was mixed. Granted not an exact science, but better than nothing.  Cool

However...the Dick Reynolds "Christmas Album" and "Adult Child" AFMs list the "rhythm" instruments (guitar, drums, bass, piano, mallets) at the same session as the orchestra...

Same thing with "Sumahama", for that matter...

Speaking of Adult Child.  I am aware of the Brian interview from the 80s where he discussed Mike's negative reaction to the record. This seems to be the usual stated explanation for why the project ended-or was it more to do with Brian's fleeting interest or something else?

Well I remember him saying Mike didn't like the swing songs. I always thought that the CBS deal made it very hard to decide what to release then. In other words what should they give WB as opposed to what should CBS get.

Reportedly, the master was handed to Reprise, who rejected it. Certainly, a fall 1977 release was projected - the master was assembled June 27th.
