It's made the Beatles easier to cover and it's one of the reasons they are more popular.

Anybody can cover the Beatles. It takes some real talent to pull off covering the Beach Boys.

I'm sure it does take some talent to play anything from Farmer's Daughter to Breakaway.

... it's like he spilled out all of his pain onto vinyl -   and it's not just Pet Sounds - it's The Warmth of the Sun, The Lonely Sea, In my room,  'til I Die, Surf's up  etc.
I'm just glad that I get it - there are so many people out there who STILL think the BB/BW are silly, nothing deep there
just surf and car songs - Aren't we blessed - that we get it?   I know I am

I know what you mean, but I think yu are going alittle over the top with the pain being poured out onto vinyl thing.  :D The best stuff (IMO) Brian did were the songs that make you happy and glad to be alive... The songs that have a certain spiritual uplift to them. Kiss Me Baby, is one of many many many BB songs that does that for me. I love songs about forgiveness. Even if you removed the lyrics to Kiss Me Baby, you would still get that same feeling for unconditional love from the music.

I admit also, the only two Beatles albums that brought a tear to my eyes were Let It Be... Naked (Sorry John Stebbins, I think the production is so much better than what Phil did) and the new Love album. The ending of Love is so fabulous I get chills and a lump in my throat every time I hear it. Besides, for my money, In My Life is as great and emotionally poingant a song as any Brian ever did, me thinks.

In many ways, that is a compliment.

Someone once said that a pop song isn't a good song unless it can be performed with just an acoustic guitar. And that usually is true, but Brian Wilson's songs are the best exceptions to that rule. That's one of the things that makes the Beach Boys' music so special.

Anybody can cover the Beatles. It takes some real talent to pull off covering the Beach Boys.

That's true. I could name a couple dozen really good Beatles covers, but I honestly couldn't name a single really good Beach Boys cover...

Darlin by the Persuasions (heavy rnb think Marvin Gaye) and Sail On Sailor by KGB which has the original "cocaine" lyrics. Perhaps Darian's cover of Do You Have Any Regrets can be included as it's way better then the original.

Oh, I just thought of one: I think that Don't Back Down by The Queers is better than the original version.

The Beatles are #3 for me, behind the Beach Boys and John Denver.

Let me guess... Paul is your favorite Beatle right?  Wink

That would be far too predictable, now wouldn't it? Nope, my favorite Beatle is George. My taste in music is fairly unpredictable: http://www.last.fm/user/meanmrmustard
