There hasn't been any really good or even useful movie about Elvis Presley yet. Still expectations are high when Peter Guralnick's essential "Last train to Memphis" is the basis. The rumour has been around since the mid 90s but it looks as if it will happen this time.

Steven Bing's Shangri-La shingle will also produce pic based on Peter Guralnick

“Last King of Scotland” director Kevin MacDonald is on board to direct the Elvis Presley biopic “Last Train to Memphis” for Fox 2000.

Based on the 1995 Peter Guralnick biography, the film chronicles Presley’s early years and his transformation from a high school kid to an overnight sensation credited with ushering in a radical new era in music.

Mick Jagger and Victoria Pearman will produce through their Jagged Films banner along with Steven Bing, who will produce through his Shangri-La shingle. John Fusco is adapting the script.

The studio along with MacDonald and the producers will now begin searching for the young Presley, starting with a recently-launched website Young Elvis Presley where actors can submit audition tapes singing six to eight bars of any Presley song.

Jagger has been championing musical biopics lately, clearly a natural fit for the seasoned rocker. He’s also producing the untitled James Brown biopic starring Chadwick Boseman. He’s also helping to shepherd a 1970s-set music biz drama at HBO with Terence Winter and Martin Scorsese.

Fox 2000 is also no stranger to biopics on music icons — Johnny Cash biopic “Walk the Line” scored at the box office and at the Oscars, scoring Reese Witherspoon a best actress win.

The WME-repped MacDonald most recently helmed another musical icon bio, docu “Marley.”

a diseased bunch of mo'fos if there ever was one… their beauty is so awesome that listening to them at their best is like being in some vast dream cathedral decorated with a thousand gleaming American pop culture icons.

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

All roads lead to Kokomo. Exhaustive research in time travel has conclusively proven that there is no alternate universe WITHOUT Kokomo. It would've happened regardless.
What is this "life" thing you speak of ?

This is not movie related but better than starting a new thread. Here's more footage of Elvis in Hawaii, 1957 than we have seen before:

Peter Guralnick confirms new Elvis Movie: EIN's LA roving reporter Joan Gansky was at the recent Grammy Museum lecture with Peter Guralnick.
She reports that Guralnick was an excellent speaker - and talked about many of the famous people in the music industry he has met - some of whom he has also written books about.  He is so down to earth and so passionate and knowledgeable on his subject:  MUSIC!
It was interesting that when he took questions from the audience, they all seemed to be about Elvis!  He mentioned he was working on a new book about Sam Phillips, due for release next year.
Afterwards I asked him what was happening about the rumored movie of his Last Train to Memphis book. Guralnick smiled and assured me that everything was on schedule and moving right along! Lisa Marie has also noted that the new movie was in pre-production.
The director is Kevin MacDonald who also directed The Last King of Scotland and Touching the Void.

EIN thanks Joan & Paul Gansky for the news.
