a diseased bunch of mo'fos if there ever was one… their beauty is so awesome that listening to them at their best is like being in some vast dream cathedral decorated with a thousand gleaming American pop culture icons.- Lester Bangs on The Beach Boys PRO SHOT BEACH BOYS CONCERTS - LISTTo sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.- Jack Rieley

You know when you're blind drunk, and close your eyes, and the room keeps moving up and down in a cascade of movements until you feel like you've turned around?
I get that from that photo.

All roads lead to Kokomo. Exhaustive research in time travel has conclusively proven that there is no alternate universe WITHOUT Kokomo. It would've happened regardless.
What is this "life" thing you speak of ?
Syncopate it? In front of all these people?!

A rather cursory interview, but it has some good stuff. As to Charlie Manson, Dennis, you've got yourself a doozy of a roomate this time.

Who wants to meet Mike wearing a replica of that outfit?

And production aside, I’d so much rather hear a 14 year old David Marks shred some guitar on Chug-a-lug than hear a 51 year old Mike Love sing about bangin some chick in a swimming pool.-rab2591

For such a manly man, Mike sometimes looks like he shops in the ladies' department for his shirts.

So Good Vibrations was number 1 because of his contribution.

Who knows... However, I just can't see the Wilson/Asher version reaching No. 1

MIKE LOVE: I had an issue with too much LSD whether it be in lyrics or life. ... PHAWKER: So you never did LSD?
MIKE LOVE: That is correct. ... PHAWKER: But what if he hadn’t taken LSD and there was never Pet Sounds and there was never “Good Vibrations”?
MIKE LOVE: Pet Sounds was pre that.
PHAWKER: I thought I read somewhere that he took it as early as ‘65 but maybe I’m wrong.
MIKE LOVE: Nonetheless ... I will say the worst thing that ever happened to The Beach Boys as a group and as individuals, too, was the influence of drugs on the group. Good grief.

Forget Mike. When I think of a woman who might inspire a guy to write "Marcella" in the 70s---and I don't mean the original (massage parlor) inspiration but the "One arm over my shoulder / Sandals dance at my feet" inspiration---that brunette's type of gorgeous is what I picture.
