Not trying to steal FatherOfTheMan's thread, but the other 'Pet Sounds 2' thread gave me an idea.

Imagine this: a casual Beach Boys fan asks if the group ever made another album similar to 'Pet Sounds'. And apart from side B of 'Today!', they really haven't. So you decide to create a 'Pet Sounds Vol. 2' mix CD with songs that either sound like they could have been on 'Pet Sounds', or that have a somewhat similar "vibe" as one of the songs on 'Pet Sounds'. You can use songs from any time period and even solo material.

Here's my attempt:

1. Break Away (substitute for Wouldn't It Be Nice)
2. Please Let Me Wonder
3. She Knows Me Too Well
4. Time To Get Alone
5. Kiss Me, Baby
6. Summer Means New Love (substitute for Let's Go Away For Awhile)
7. Cotton Fields (substitute for Sloop John B.)
8. Forever (substitute for God Only Knows)
9. Let The Wind Blow
10. The Warmth Of The Sun
11. In The Back Of My Mind
12. Trombone Dixie (substitute for Pet Sounds)
13. 'Til I Die (substitute for Caroline, No)

the only songs that totally feel awkwardly unfit for pet sounds 2 are "cotton fields" (sounds to country) and trombone dixie lol

This is a great fantasy album.

And production aside, I’d so much rather hear a 14 year old David Marks shred some guitar on Chug-a-lug than hear a 51 year old Mike Love sing about bangin some chick in a swimming pool.-rab2591

I think I'd replace-
Summer Means New Love with Let Him Run Wild
Cotton Fields with Help Me Rhonda (Endless Harmony version with wah wah overdubs)
Trombone Dixie with Guess I'm Dumb (track only)

I'd also want to make sure that the Hawthorne tag for Breakaway was used.

And I'd add Meant for You as an intro.

I'd also want The Little Girl I Once Knew in there somewhere.

I think if you used the 20/20 Brian produced version it'd be a good substitute for Sloop John B.  The single version produced by Al, yeah, way too country.

i like your list but for me "summer means new love" is nowhere close to "lets go away for awhile". i mean its good. but LGAFA is so lush and dense, and there are like four different melodies going on at the same time that all work for some reason  Brian, Dennis, & Carl

but i love that you included so many songs from today. i've always thought of that as the twin of pet sounds. or at least the little brother or something.   Smiley
