are there any recordings of the Disco version of Here Comes the Night being performed live? I would be interested to see how this turned out, and the booing!

I don't know of any live versions, but I use the 10 minute studio version on the treadmill...all the time!
If you are pressed for time, 10 minutes on the treadmill is better than nothing, and - Here Comes the Night is your song!

There's an audience recording of the boys playing it in '79 at Radio City Music Hall. When HCTN was introduced the audience began to boo and Mike says that there's no need to boo because there's nothing wrong if the Beach Boys show how to do it right. That kinda softened the audience. To be honest, it rocked quite good in concert.
They also did it on the Midnight Special:

a diseased bunch of mo'fos if there ever was one… their beauty is so awesome that listening to them at their best is like being in some vast dream cathedral decorated with a thousand gleaming American pop culture icons.

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.
