The word at the Smile release party on Tuesday night is that Smile sales have already surpassed Capitol's projections, which were of course too conservative...and that they are now "scrambling" to press more.

This is great news that, along with the higher than expected sales of Dennis' Pacific Ocean Blue, will lead to even more vault opening and releases.  The labels have to see now that there is a market for this stuff.

Having a terrible time finding Smile in Hawaii.  Barnes and Noble - sold out.  Best Buy store 1 of 2, sold out.  Sam Goody (closed due to a fire - Ironic huh!)

The ONLY reason for that is the order in which they were released.

The order in which they were released is the only reason either of them was released.

Exactly!

Slipped to 93 in week 2.  Sad

That was totally predictable. Once the hard-core fans got theirs who else was going to buy it?? Regardless of the critical acclaim, the fact remains it's a special interest set of recordings, much of which consists of unfinished works. BWPS was a fully realized performance -  a VERY good one in fact - that a more casual fan would be much more likely to purchase than a collection of (many unfinished) works.

When you sit in this or any other fan site echo chamber it seems like everyone in the world is all excited about the doings of BW and the Boys. The fact is to the huge majority of people the BBs are an oldies act - albeit a good oldies act - and sales/chart position reflect that.

Artistic merit and commercial potential are two entirely different things. BWPS had great artistic merit and some commercial potential - TSS has great artistic merit and VERY limited commercial potential.

IMHO TSS is over commercially. There's no video to release, there's no hi-def recording (unlike BWPS which could generate some added sales in a DVD-A or SACD release), nothing left. Sad but true!

THis will go gold eventually with worldwide sales no ?

schools and libraries will buy copies of this, people wil
buy it as a gift, it will have long life and legs for years
to come.

They will get a million units total worldwide between downloads, box sets and the two disc set
plus in terms of dollars, the big set is really pricey, and the ancilliary merchandising,

The cost must have been high putting it together,, but this is a great thing,  A Historical document
a commercial product, and something that shows a profit eventually.

I am thrilled, havent got my two disc set yet, (Its my christmas present I dont know about)
