From the review in Vancouver's Georgia Strait. Has anyone heard of this? I noticed from Eric's Setlist that for the June 2 concert Mike love was absent, in Japan. This also checks out on AGD's Bellagio site which mentions the appearance of Brian and absence of Mike.

I remember reading about this somewhere. Apparently he said it a a joke, and the rest of the group were not to happy about it.  Grin

Maybe he was just referring to Mike's credibility.

I hope there's a boot of this. To hear this would be really something. Especially with crowd reaction.

Only an announcement of this nature could eclipse a cheer more thunderous than Country Joe's F%@# cheer at Woodstock. Wink

We know Brian likes to reuse his stage banter, so we can but dream  LOL

I was at this rare Mike-less show, at Canada Olympic Park, near Calgary. In fact it was mentioned in Brian's fictional autobiography. Brian said something to the effect of "Mike Love is sick. He's really sick. He might die". The band went on to play a song, after which Carl said "Mike Love is fine. He's taking care of some business and couldn't be here today". It went something like that, anyway.

If I remember correctly they did a couple of Canadian shows in 1990 without Michael; I recall one from Barrie, Ontario being another. Only in 1991 when Michael had to sit out a few shows, the band had Gerry Beckley stand in for him.

I saw them in Calgary on this tour.  Brian said that Mike was absent due to illness and that he might die!

You two attendees, do you have a setlist? Or maybe even some kind of "other souvenir"....  Smokin

PRO SHOT BEACH BOYS CONCERTS - LIST

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

This is the Barrie, Ontario show. Mixed up 1990 and 1991 here, as Gerry Beckley substituted during this brief tour. Michael was in Japan at the time with the Endless Summer Beach Band.

Only real surprise is California with Al on vocals.

The contents of that show are a blur to me unfortunately. I do remember Carl seemed a bit aloof, Brian stared up at the sky a lot. There were cheerleaders. The set list was probably pretty typical for a BBs show of that era. They shared the bill with The Band and a bunch of other not so great Canadian acts.
Looking forward to tomorrow night's Gershwin show in Vancouver!

Michael guesting at a Grateful Dead concert...

"I haven't seen so many undesirable elements in one place since James Watt...yeah, you remember him? James Watt, yeah. He worked in WASHINGTON, you know, where they make the laws and all. He was right up next to President and Mrs. Reagan and all of those Senators, they call them. Anyway, a while ago he uninvited us from the 4th of July celebrations at the WASHINGTON MONUMENT, you remember that? And he received a plaster shot-up foot because he was too chickenshit to party with the Beach Boys."
