Does anyone know why no songs co-written with Jan appeared on Beach Boys albums. My guess is that it had something to do with Jan's Screen Gems contract, but I'm not sure.
It could also be that they might not have exactly fit The Beach Boys incredibly well. While The Beach Boys and Jan & Dean's music are similar, they do have certain stylistic differences. Its hard for me to imagine, even having heard and seen some in concert, The Beach Boys singing many of Jan & Dean's material. Even with the unmistakable Brian influence.
At any rate, its a shame considering what an effective writing team they were. Thinking about Shut Down, Vol. 2, in particular would've been helped out greatly with some of Jan and Brian's collaborations.

Uh-oh, apples and oranges.
You must be referencing some other Album; I went to the bestest site in the universe for BBs stuff(http://www.esquarterly.com/bellagio/albumarchive1.html) and I don't see any BW-JB( the bestest should always be listed firstest) collaborations on SDV2.
You might want to revise the note there also.

Andrew, do you know of one we aren't aware of?

The only Jan & Dean song I can think of ever appearing on a Beach Boys' album is "The Little Old Lady From Pasadena" from Beach Boys' Concert which as far as I know, wasn't a collaboration between the two.

Congrats on 6,000, too!

What I meant by Shut Down, Vol. 2 is that the album is, overall, so weak that it would've faired much better with a Jan/Brian tune on it. Not that it actually had any.

Sorry, brain-fart - thought you meant JB co-written with anyone else. Duh !

My fault, I could've made that question a little more clear.

I thought you were hinting that a track was co-written with Jan, but not credited as such. Haha.

Nothing at all to do with Screen Gems...

The reason why, pure and simple, is because Jan & Dean were "Pirates"!!!!! Pirate
