I just had a eureka moment that I'm sure everyone else already knows, but the 'unknown vocal harmony' loop that's on a lot of old boots is just the tag of Breakaway, right? I just need some validation here folks!

Well, it's part of the tag, and is more or less prominent depending on what mix of Breakaway you're listening to.  But yeah, it was recorded for Breakaway.

Sweet, and thanks. For some reason I could never place it until just now when the two happened to come up next to each other on my itunes. And I've had that track since at least '93 or '4.

Yeah, it's mixed higher in, I think, the Hawthorne mix. I used that the other week to a friend just getting into the Beach Boys to show Brian's attention to detail. That lovely track just used for that and mixed down so much!

Was very disappointed with the Warmth Of The Sun mix of Break Away because these vocals were mixed down even more to the degree of them being barely hearable at all. A 30 minute loop of these vocal harmonies should've been released as a Brother Records BB release in its own right.  Cool

Yeah, there's also a few random organ parts (or moog, or whatever it is) that sound out of place on the instrumental but fit in just right on the finished product.

I just found this and am kind of floored: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSFAR_f_xXQ

"Breakaway" may be the best song nobody knows by them.

Yeah I found that a few months back...

Man, Brian is and will always be the king of harmony. Just amazing.

I once heard (in a dream, I think), some isolated backing harmonies for this
beautiful song, which just drove me crazy with desire to hear more isolated backing vocals
of more BB songs. I'm sure Mr. Boyd is doing everything he can to make these kinds of dreams real, and the efforts along these lines that he has succeeded in getting released, like the "Add Some Music" and "Forever" on Hawthorne CA. are GREATLY appreciated, but for the most part all we have are nonexistent boots. Sad

Go to "screensaver" and get the "Warmth of the sun". It's really cool. They used the picture of the boys that you see and added some sea-effects and the "Break Away" vocal-part. It's just very nice. Love that screensaver for years

a diseased bunch of mo'fos if there ever was one… their beauty is so awesome that listening to them at their best is like being in some vast dream cathedral decorated with a thousand gleaming American pop culture icons.

PRO SHOT BEACH BOYS CONCERTS - LIST

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

I never realised how complicated and complex those backing vocals were. Listen to the final "life turns around" lyric. That was just INSANE!  Shocked

Is that Murray singing on that part? There's another deep voice in there besides Mike. It sounds kinda creepy actually.

I thought the Warmth of the Sun mix WAS the Hawthorne mix? Huh
