Was going through one of my storage bins and came across this magazine and decided to scan the cover. Sorry the magazine is not in better shape:

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

Also, he's the only one in the picture who basically looks a little bit stoned... just a very little bit!
What's that thing on his head? Looks like a diving mask. Crazy guy.

Get the book Back To The Beach. Any true BB fan should have it. The article is in there.

I have a copy of it for sale. It's a little rough around the edges, but in good condition otherwise. PM me if you are interested.

That's the cover of the first part of the Nolan article. Gotta have the other issue too for the second part!
It's also in "The Beach Boys Complete" songbook from Almo Publishing in 1973.
Pretty sure Mr. Mayo or Bgas scanned the article and posted it already in that other Scans thread. Or at the very least scanned it and has it available for PM.

I, I love the colorful clothes she wears, and she's already working on my brain. I only looked in her eyes, but I picked up something I just can't explain. I, I bet I know what she’s like, and I can feel how right she’d be for me. It’s weird how she comes in so strong, and I wonder what she’s picking up from me. I hope it’s good, good, good, good vibrations, yeah!!

...Wow. That "Beach Boys Complete" is the book of sheet music I picked up way back in my teens, which singlehandedly first turned me on to the story behind the band. So this article is the wellspring. My first glimpse of Smile. These strange mystic songs "Surf's Up", "Cabinessence", "Heroes And Villains", which they sure never played on oldies radio. Murry Wilson. Charles Manson. Brian playing "Be My Baby" over and over again. All these formative moments of the myth in one place.
That just gave me a tremendous nostalgia rush...
Cheers,

Me three. Trying to read some of the chord voicings on "I Just Wasn't Made for these Times" and "Pet Sounds" pretty much did in my primitive guitar abilities at 13. But I did like having the Nolan article with the original layout and pics.

Holy mackerel! These scans are great! Most of the photos are new to me! Thanks for the link! How I wish to have that Songbook and play the BBs songs on my synthesizer! I play them as I hear but it'd be better to play as they are written, with right chords and so on.
Save your money, if you're seeking the 'right chords'. Most of these are presented in E FLAT. Gotta love E FLAT.
...ok...ok...some are in like B FLAT....
, but even when you transpose them, some important chords are missing or in the wrong place.
