Velvet Underground ?

What are your thoughts of this group? I checked them out like a week ago because my dad recommended their music to me so many times I just haven't gave them a chance til last week.
Ww their music was opposite of everything that I heard from the mid 60's...(heroin,sex,transvestites)..I like pretty much their first 4 albums..Lou's voice sounded so cool.
I like the dark feel of it..I can just imagine the dirty new york streets, drug addicts leaning off the heroin and the nasty sex in the factory lol. I can see why they are considered one of the most influential groups of all time.

ok. i can't lie. there's a five way tie for my "favorite band of all time". Those being The Beach Boys/David Bowie/The Who/Pink Floyd/Velvet Underground. One of the best bands to come out of the 60's and probably the most influential band of all time. And they did that with just their first album. White Light/White Heat is an avant garde masterpiece. The self titled album has to be one of the most underrated and beautiful albums ever. And Loaded is so easy to listen to. It just flows into your ears. Squeeze is NOT a VU album, so i don't even judge that when judging their albums, cuz neither John, Sterling or Lou had anything to do with it, and Mo probably wanted nothing to do with it.

I believe Squeeze was just Doug Yule and Ian Paice from Deep Purple on drums! It's not an awful album as Doug has great chops and an engaging voice. So, it's certainly worth seeking out if a copy can be located.
The Velvets are one of THE key bands of all-time and should probably rank outside the hold trinity of The Beatles/Beach Boys/Stones.
Their self-titled third album is my favorite of all-time.

Two Velvet Underground LPs to add to the "official" four are the posthumous "VU" (as is it's chronology, a mix of the sound and feel of their third and the "commercial" "Loaded") and the live "69" (worst album cover ever until "Lou's "Take No Prisoners" likely). All these albums are unique, strong, and I think catchy expressions of a band who's influence is unquestionable and you can't go wrong with any of them if you ask me. Of course in the day they didn't sell diddley! But like they say, everyone who bought one of their records started a band....
There are lots of places to go and read great waxings on the brilliance and wonderfulness of the Velvets; I'll just throw in that what puts them over the top for me is the heart in the majority of their music. Yes, their are drugs, kinky sex, and fabulous and crazy people in the songs, but there is also vulnerability and redemption. And oh yeah they are great songs! And performances.

That cover of Take No Prisoners gives me the willies!
And then the picture on the inside of the gate-fold gives me bad dreams!

oh crap how could forget those. Yes, VU is definitely worth getting or at least listening to. Lots of interesting stuff on there (tho it obviously doesn't work if you're looking for anything cohesive). live 69 is great too. Lots of energy.

It varies, last week it was Low and Heroes, now it seems to be Scary Monsters. I really haven't heard much from him past the 80's. Haven't heard anything from Heathen or the one that came after that. I've tried, but never get the time.

All roads lead to Kokomo. Exhaustive research in time travel has conclusively proven that there is no alternate universe WITHOUT Kokomo. It would've happened regardless.
