Songs don't tend to do it because, being a hardened shell of a man, I need prolonged exposure to music to make me cry. Three minutes isn't really enough. I can catch myself because the song finishes, y'know?

But, La Boheme by Puccini always ruins me. I've seen it twice and I was in an absolute state afterwards. Which never really happens.

The only 'pop' song that can do it is Can't Help Falling In Love With You. Sung by nearly anyone. I'm also set off by the way Spiritualized use it in Ladies & Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBwZP5iaNmY

All roads lead to Kokomo. Exhaustive research in time travel has conclusively proven that there is no alternate universe WITHOUT Kokomo. It would've happened regardless.
What is this "life" thing you speak of ?

God Only Knows always tugs at the heartstrings ( as does Everybody Hurts by REM ), but I also remember very well hearing of the death of Dennis in the early morning went to work and then back for lunch and vividly recall Radio 1 reporting the news of Dennis on the 1pm news and straight after they played Lady Lynda and that intro sent me into tears , and because of that memory still brings a lump in the throat.

Not me , but the first time I  played Disney Girls to an old girlfriend she burst into tears she was so moved by the innocence of the lyrics / melody etc. and really reminded her of how her life was so much more simple when she was younger  - It rapidly became her favourite song of all time

I have one above all others but I can't say it, it's still too personal and I hope I get over it enough to open up to the song again.

A few specifics otherwise:

Hearing All You Need Is Love on the car radio, Wednesday Sept. 12, 2001, while driving to work on the same route at the exact same time at the same spot on the road as "The Beatles Breakfast Block" played in the car the day before...but the previous morning gave absolutely no indication of how everything would change within an hour of my driving to work that Tuesday. It was any other sunny day on Tuesday listening to the Beatles on the drive, but on Wednesday hearing All You Need Is Love made me fall apart as I was driving. That was the first time the weight of it came crashing in for me, and The Beatles triggered it.

Hearing "In Blue Hawaii" for the first time on those dinky preview Smile mp3 tracks, I just lost it, it was so beautiful and felt like something great had just happened - can't explain other than that.

Skeeter Davis' "The End Of The World".

Joe Jackson's "Steppin' Out" makes me think of things I haven't yet done, and keeps things hopeful at the same time. This one lyric near the end: "We are young but getting old before our time. We'll leave the T.V. and the radio behind. Don't you wonder what we'll find? Steppin' out tonight."  That is an absolutely brilliant line and a very moving sentiment, and it hits me right in the heart and mind every time I hear it. It's one that you so very much want to heed the call and head out and do something, then reality sets in. But there is always hope. Smiley

Nice one. I once had a very memorable experience set to that song.

My mother gets real emotion when she hears a song by The Hollies named "The Air That I Breathe", I Guess because it reminds her of my father.

Funny, I always thought Radiohead copped a lot off of "The Air That I Breathe". Most notably in "Creep".

I never noticed that but I'll check it out..I never liked "Creep" i always felt like it was Radiohead's weakest songs but then again it's also their biggest hit.
