The first thing people disliked about Linda was that she was thought to have supplanted Jane Asher as Paul's girlfriend. Jane was considered pretty, even beautiful, classy, etc. Linda, on the other hand, was called homely and "pushy American," and the fact that she was divorced with a child didn't help. Then she started singing with Paul, and her name appeared on credits in one or both of Paul's first two solo albums.  Then she was part of Wings as a keyboard player. All of this seemed to confirm the notion that she was pushy. According to Paul, it was his idea to involve her musically (whether he was insecure or just in love) and she was very reluctant to join him on stage, knowing she had zero experience. But again, people blamed her, thought she had pushed her way in, and thought she had no business playing with a Beatle.

I think as time went on and their marriage endured, people started to soften towards her, realizing that they were together to stay and that Paul was happy. After Linda died, the public's view of her warmed even more, particularly after Paul married Heather Mills. I think today, Linda is thought to have been a kind, warm person, a wonderful mother, a devoted wife, and a dedicated (if not great) musician.

I've always considered Linda to be way more attractive then Jane Asher! Though that's just my opinion

But, oh my goodness, was Jane Asher beautiful.

Linda said she and Paul just had fun together. RAM is amazing, and feels like a direct result of their relationship. They were in love, making music and having fun, and that's what comes through.

Woodstock, is that you?

Obviously you're taking the piss, but I commend you. Very original and excruciatingly funny!

Agreed. Linda didn't always put the same effort into her appearance as a lot of other women (Jane Asher included). In a lot of photos, she's wearing zero makeup. I think she just didn't care about that stuff very much. But in many photographs, Linda is very pretty.

Not that it really matters. Linda's appearance seemed to play a role in people not liking her. I always think it's ridiculous when people decide they dislike someone (usually a woman) because of appearance.

I also think Linda was a very good photographer. The closeup photo of Brian someone posted here captures his essence circa 1968 quite well, IMO.

I think Linda is great. I like her photographs and I love her harmonies with Paul. I don't even mind her lead vocal on "Cook of the House".

However, and that's a big however, her fake British accent was SOOOO horrendous. Why she (and Madonna for that matter) ever decided to "acquire" an accent that obviously wasn't their own is asisine.

Also, I thought Carl was your favourite Beach Boy, not Bruce.
So it would make far more sense if you were a Carlista

Another reason Linda was disliked in Beatles circles is that Paul wanted her father to manage the Beatles instead of Allen Klein, and Linda's brother represented Paul in the band break-up. Fans and perhaps the Beatles also thought she made Paul less hip and more boring, though I suspect Paul was always like that, going by some of his songs.

It must have been tough for Linda Eastman with all the women throwing themselves at Paul McCartney.  I wonder if she was one of them.
