Why can't we start polls?

I've tried every so often to create a poll - one about Girl Groups in the 'General Music' section and another, perhaps less serious one, in the 'On Topic' section - and when I've tried to submit it it goes 'this option is not available to you' (or similar) and bars me from posting it. What gives? Is it to do with the multitude of polls in the discography section?

I don't know why. When I add topics to the discography section I get this same problem. But there's a solution. First you make a "normal" topic. And when you've posted it, you open it again and click on "add poll" (which is shown below the topic you just posted). A bit extra work, but at least it works. Good luck!
