Not to discourage you from posting cool stuff-but if you look in the Media section this was posted a long time ago. Still it is an amazing cover!! Wow-talk about a fashion disaster!!
Sorry for the repeat, that's what I get for not checking in regularly. You guys leve no stone unturned, it's hard to find stuff that hasn't been covered here already! I am a bit ambivalent about the cover, on the one hand it's good fun, but it's also a bit unctuous, I think, even if ironic. From a period when Brian stayed away from most publicity shots.

EYE was a short-lived magazine from the Hearst Corporation, lasted a year and a half. What do you think of this cover? One of the last of Mike without a cap? What's all that smarmy hugging about? What do you think of the photo, how does it figure in the context of that period in the band's career?

I don't know about that show, but another show of that tour was filmed in Paris and is up on youtube. Check out the Pro Shot Concerts List (link is in my signature)
I have the complete concert on video, including the opening set by Paul Revere and the Raiders. Good quality black and white. Thanks, I'll have a look.

I've seen clips from that concert in a doc (An American Band?), it's quite historic and features the new single "Breakaway", which was rather appropriate, following the Prague Spring of 1968. Mike was wearing his hooded white kaftan, and banging away on a tambourine. I see youtube has clips from there, too. How much of it was filmed? And who owns the rights? Wouldn't it be great for a DVD release, so few concerts are out on DVD.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Found Shut Down (vol 1 of course)

I am listening to it and lo and behold the songs "Shut Down" and "409" are different! "Shut Down" has a new car sound at the beginning and "409" is live...however most of the other songs aren't very good, some even have stupid lyrics and sound more like novelty songs,,,, I can see why Brian was upset with it's release..in fact with the exception of the 2 BB songs I didn't like ANY of the other songs,,,
is it on CD?

Why Not... Brian Carl Dennis Al Bruce Mike Blondie Ricky David
I kind of like that, and thought to go all the way myself in my suggestion. I suppose you are ranking in order of importance to you, but even from a layout pov it makes sense. I'd have Mike second, and David above Blondie and Ricky. I think David's guitar playing is more important than the odd lead vocal.

New from Old Skool Hooligans! 100% cotton! 100% unofficial! What do you think? Will Joe Public recognize these names? How about the running order. Al at the top? Clearly done that way for the sake of a balanced layout. What would be your running order, if you didn't have to think about a balanced layout? Mine: Brian, Mike, Carl, Dennis, Al, Bruce

Came across these years back. Think the first cover I heard although not technically a BB song was Monkeys Uncle, they did such an amazing job of it I decided to search out more if their stuff and found some gems... HV springs to mind... Always thought it would be kinda cool if these guys did a warm up to a BW show..!
HV? What does that stand for? Heroes and Villains?

GM,
Around what time period are you referring to? I know the M&B added some deeper cuts in the mid 2000s, but I was under the impression that they stuck to 35 song hit heavy sets for the most part until 2012.
Yes, there seems to be a sense of competition between the two camps. Maybe this is why Brian's setlists have been very Beach Boys heavy since the end of 2012.
KDS, Mike and Bruce have two kinds of shows, hit-heavy for county fairs and such, and a more varied one with deep cuts for indoor shows. I am not sure when they introduced the deep cuts, because the noughties are all a big blur to me. Seen BW and M&B too many times to really pinpoint anything.

When Mike and Bruce made their set list more interesting to compete with Brian's touring band, people here, including myself, were very positive. That in turn made Brian dig deeper into the catalog for his shows (once PS, SMiLE, and Gershwin tours were out of the way).

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Brian's best solo moment

Digging the DE of NPP, and lovely song The Right Time in particular! Just love those ascending falsetto lines in the chorus! Haven't read the liner notes, or listened carefully enough, but can Brian really sing that high now? It's amazing that he can pull off such a song 54 years into his career, the mark of a true genius. He has no competition in music nowadays. Nobody else can record a 16 track no-filler album, it just isn't done! NPP is ace, and The Right Time may be my favorite Brian solo moment!
