So many fabulous songs...

SIP
Still Cruisin'
85
MIU
KTSA

I would also add LBWL! Maybe as number one!  But, sh*t, First Love is pretty good.

I kinda excuse Surfin' Safari because it's the developmental stage

"Reminds me of Richard Carpenter's comment about Karen's death in the Behind The Music episode on the Carpenters: "When I think of all the great records we could have made...". It's your SISTER, idiot, who cares about the records!"

Nice one, Ian.

You wag!

Seriously, he should be locked up too. I just dread to think what other showbiz stars were up to at the time (and, yeah, I know about Jimmy Page and the 14 year-old and that David Bowie had (allegedly) been there first when she was 13) - including some of the Boys...

What is it that Gaines says about Dennis?  If the girl was underage, he would only go down on her...?

And nice to see you use a picture of a child abuser for your avatar.  Ah, humor...

Wow.  The ignorance here is stunning.  Reminds me of when I was in Russia years ago and several people I met had such a narrow, bigoted view of the west from years of listening to (and not questioning) tired demagogues and their view of the world.

I'll keep it to 5 so as not to piss off the OP and AGD if he decides to tot up all the top fives.

1. Surf's Up
2  Pet Sounds
3.  Wild Honey
4. Today
5.  Friends

Can't stand the song on TLOS.
8  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Track talk #7: Cotton Fields on: October 28, 2012, 02:49:18 AM
I like both.  Always have.  But it's the single version for me.
9  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: after Holland, did it seem like they gave up? on: October 23, 2012, 10:15:08 AM
Murry buying the farm didn't help.

"I know, maybe they shyed away because of the dark psychological and political themes, but still... Wasn't it a bit too late in the game to worry about wholesomeness?"

Seems odd that Mr Positivity wouldn't but his sidekick, Mr Conservative, would.  Maybe we're looking too deep here. Maybe they just couldn't be arsed.  BRian wasn't in a fit state to record with his own band, never mind anyone else's.

There's a story about Toni Tenille going to see a Floyd show and a trendier than thou fan turning to her asking her what on earth was someone like her doing there - then she explained she actually sang on the album!
12  Smiley Smile Stuff / Polls / Re: Twofer polls #11: Keepin' The Summer Alive vs. The Beach Boys (85) on: October 12, 2012, 06:19:37 AM
KTSA  because of Goin' On and Santa Ana Winds

Interesting that Usher originally seemed to have pushed him to those godawful production values (more or less at the same time Melcher was doing the same for the Boys) in an attempt to make Brian sound up to date...
14  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: should they have experimented with a harder sound? on: October 05, 2012, 06:49:51 AM
God, no. By now, they'd have sold their souls playing endless blues shows/albums.  I like the BB because of what they are not what someone else wants so they could be more popular amongst the macho dick-centric crowd. I would have been quite happy if they had explored certain musical routes open to them, sure - but they were routes that they created in the first place (the SMiLE and Holland era or the potential for more DW songs as opposed to 'summer is fun.'
15  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Another UK Appearance - Later On Jools Holland BBC TV on: September 26, 2012, 04:16:59 AM
Well, TWGMTR was a bit flat in places, but it wasn't only Brian who was off. To be honest, I think the arrangement doesn't work. It's as if it needs an extra voice.  Do It Again was about par, though Mike seemed to be a little weak, as he did on NPR and on the BBC radio show; Barbara Ann was pretty good - for once and the arsehole who is forever coming on here saying, "I don't hear Brian," was surely satisfied...

Really don't like it.
17  Smiley Smile Stuff / Polls / Re: Twofer polls #10: Carl & The Passions vs Holland on: September 22, 2012, 03:41:22 AM
Holland.
18  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Live Album! on: September 22, 2012, 03:40:59 AM
The bitching about auto-tune (smetimes by people who didn't have a clue but were just jumping on the band wagon) was reflected in some of the reviews by writers who read these boards and also wouldn't have a clue what auto-tune was.
19  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: anyone think this idea would make a good movie on: September 22, 2012, 03:37:36 AM
No.  A better movie would be one about a Ross Macdonald detective hired by a family desperate for the return of the cash cow, trying to free a 60s rock/pop genius from the clutches of a an evil, manipulative psychiatrist.

I liked Brian's voice on the NPR show - thought it sounded better than Mike's!  I hope the tracklist is more adventurous than the NPR show, however.
21  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Reading 50 Sides of the Beach Boys (my thoughts) on: September 20, 2012, 12:14:04 PM
I must get this - and I know a couple of my friends will really appreciate it this Christmas!
22  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: If the Reverbation and Add Some Music albums were released instead of Sunflower on: September 20, 2012, 11:39:43 AM
I'm not keen on the strings on the released SAW, but I prefer the lyrics.  Best track on the album, but it's a pity it didn't grace LA instead.
23  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Grammy Museum Los Angeles 9/18/12 on: September 20, 2012, 11:33:54 AM
Ah, Bruce.  You gotta love him. Don't you?  Hello?  Anyone?

Great image! Thanks.
25  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: 1973 Carl/Billy/Ricky band? on: September 12, 2012, 12:58:57 PM
That's a strange one.  Wasn't Carl the one trying to replace Bruce with Billy in the late 60s?
