I thought BW's were added when he was touring with Al?  Or maybe some of them were...

Oh, let's hope Denny's percussion or drums are somewhere in the mix!

That's a bad song.  I await your first album with a certain anticipation...

So this isn't the version of DFTS that many of us have heard?
Don't suppose DW is on drums or percussion?
When's the damn thing being released?

Good, enjoyable rock music doesn't have to be about sophistication.

If Liam wins then what about Noddy Holder?  Slade are Oasis with talent.

And surely to Christ Mike was way better?

RnR to the Rescue's okay for its time, but it's not good.  Big Sur is. Both versions.

And, of course, Bruce's best song was recorded during this era...

If memory serves, despite JR's tales of the band split into factions, both Dennis and Mike weren't exactly warm towards Bruce in intervews after he'd left, but, as you say, he turned up on albums afterwards and continued to play the odd gig until he was asked to produce LA. Then again, Carl didn't want him in the photo for Ten Years Harmony and he had, after all, appeared as a bona fide BB (as opposed to 'guest') on five of the studio albums from this period, including those from which most of the songs were taken and some of his songs were on the album! Those crazy Beach Boys!

Queen.  Shudder. Cheese you can smell a mile off.  Still, could've been worse. Could've been Bono!
144  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Cool new BB article in EQ Magazine on: April 07, 2010, 03:23:34 PM
I remember reading in NME at the time of KTSA that Matthews was going to replace Dennis!  His band (duo?) was the Durocs.   Think he worked on John Hiatt's Riding with the King album - the half that Nick Lowe didn't produce.

"But would't some publication such as ESQ have tried to interview Mike about the genesis of Let the Wind Blow, Big Sur, 10.000 Years etc in the last 20 years? Who knows?"

Great idea and a broad hint...

Thought so.  Thanks, AGD.

Wasn't there a version of I Don't Wanna Know cut for First Love?  I'm aware the one on the Celebration album hasn't got a ML lead.

sh*t.  And I started the discussion.  I'd forgotten about this!  Has Mike ever given an in-depth interview about this stuff or does he alays get hung up on the TM track?
149  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mandatory Box Set: Sunflower/ Surf's Up/ Holland & In Concert? on: April 05, 2010, 09:06:53 AM
Let's have the Carnegie Hall set AND a Sunflower to Holland box  AND a box of bonus cuts from that era: Loop De Loop, Walkin', San Miguel, I'm Going Your Way/California Slide, Games Two Can Play, When Girls Get Together, Soulful Old Man Sunshine, Lady, Tears in the Morning (original version), Carnival, Susie Cincinatti, I Just Got Mt Pay, Good Time, Back Home, Sound of Free, Seasons in the Sun, HELP is on the Way, My Solution, Barbara, WIBNTLA, 4th of July. Big Sur (early version), Won't You Tell Me, the cleaned up Awake demo, How Sweet (Charles Lloyd), All Life is One (CL), Out in the Country, Ten Years of Harmony demo, It's a New Day, Rishikesh (CL), TM (CL), Carry Me Home, We Got Love, Hard Times.  Did Bruce demo Brand New Old Movie for the BB? I'm sure I've missed some stuff out and on top of that, we could throw in a few acappella versions, such as Sail on Sailor and Add Some Music - or we could take it to 74 and throw in a possible early River Song (if it exists), California Feelin' (demo), Wishin' You Were Here (Chicago).  I'd chuck in Sweet Mountain too and, just to placate Capitol, a live version of Good Vibrations...
150  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: 10,000 Years on: April 05, 2010, 08:42:06 AM
I'm sure I read somewhere that Mike had a hand in the music too - at an early stage, anyhow.  It didn't rile Dennis to put POB on POB. I guess we differ; I think it's one of the stronger songs on MLNW, though I'd like to have heard Mike's lead on I Don't Wanna Know - wish I had a clear copy of First Love!

I wonder if this is one of the tracks they were working up in the 74-76 era, along with POB, for the next BB album until it turned into therapy for Brian and became 15 Big Ones.
