harmonica on Susie Cincinnati, Good Time, I Just Got My Pay, Santa Ana Winds etc,

Whoa! He's actually a-okay harpist, especially Santa Ana Winds features some pretty soulful blowin'.

"Fun Fun Fun: The Story of Brian Wilson"

 Smiley

If I was smart, I'd find a great way to use "I'll bet he's nice" as movie title

: D

”I’ll Bet He’s Nice - Portrait of Brian Wilson”.

If it’s about Brian driving around LA ”Honkin’ Down the Highway” would be a sweet title.

5  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Challenge: Combine MIU and LA into a single cohesive classic LP on: March 25, 2019, 08:10:50 AM
I know I'm pretty much alone with this, but MIU is one of my faves by The Boys. It's fun, nothing too deep, but it doesn't feel forced, you know? Must be all those Brian Wilson compositions, I guess.

LA? Make the disco track shorter, Shortnin' Bread longer (in style of long Can't Wait Too Long, with different variations coming up) and throw in a few Dennis tracks he was working on at the time. And voila, you'll have a classic odd AOR album there.

Definitely keeping the legacy of one of the world's best bands alive and well.

From beginning to end, as a whole, not skipping anything. Preferably without distractions.

Whoa, great song and spot-on guitar work! I want more!

Seriously, best new tune I've heard in ages. Funny.

Also, I own an original sketch by Dennis Wilson. It's a very quick, simplified woman's face.

Really??!! Now that's a real treasure, Em. Roll Eyes

Could you post a photo of this, by any chance?

I love this... the most exciting music newsbit for me and many others here is five old guys sitting in chairs somewhere, not even singing a note :D. <3 the Beach Boys!
12  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Denny's drum arranging style vs. Brian's on: August 03, 2018, 12:38:41 PM
Back to drums, I’d say Denny’s songs have more groove-oriented drum parts. Earthier, funkier, yet driving. For Brian, drums often don’t have their usual time-keeping role, playing odd beats and embellishing here and there.

Me four! Warms my heart to see them together.

I wonder how the comedy routines would have been... surely they never got around to actually do them?
15  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Had SMiLE been released, what would Brian have subsequently done? on: June 08, 2018, 01:57:26 AM
As for the music, I'm happy things went the way they went. IF they'd gone for overwrought pop-classical-progressive direction even more, it could have turned cheesy. I, for one, shudder to think Beach Boys going Queen-Pink Floyd-progressive route in the seventies. But then again, I don't think there ever was danger of that. Brian was a song guy, who followed his muse. The songs he had in him were the ones we hear on Wikld Honey anyway, so possible changes in the timeline (had Smile been released, that is) wouldn't have been that big. Maybe less skeletal arrangements, but then again, even Smile was heading skeletal way during the final sessions.
16  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Had SMiLE been released, what would Brian have subsequently done? on: May 31, 2018, 01:52:50 AM
We'd be without Smiley Smile or Lei'd in Hawaii (which would be a bummer), but I believe Wild Honey would have happened in one form or another anyway.

Think about other big names: The Beatles and Dylan both went back to stripped down, relatively basic rock after their big, epic albums (Pepper & Blonde on Blonde). Brian, who was keeping an eye on what the competition (especially the Beatles) were doing, would have taken his cue from their moves, I presume, just like he did with Smile.

Just how many copies a week you have to sell (physical copies) in the US Yo make it all the way to 193? In Finland that would be maybe 5-10 copies...

Haven't read the discussion yet but the opening post is something I've sometimes tought about. Hmm. Interesting points, though I'm not sure I agree with everything.

What a lovely video. The ending, as well: Brian makes his patented swift exit, leaving Christ sitting and wondering. Lunchtime, bro!  Grin

How often did Bruce use his "visitation rights" after splitting from the group? Did he ever appear on stage with them before joining back during L.A. era?
21  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: That Beach Boys song going through your head on: March 31, 2018, 11:48:13 PM
Every time I see this topic, California Feeling starts to play in my head. You know, it has that bit about wind blowing through ones head. Or is it hair? Anyway, that one.
22  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Unpopular Beach Boys opinions on: March 29, 2018, 05:38:07 AM
Arguments about who is the best lyricist are kind of pointless. In a way, I'd say Brian was the best lyric buy, because he knew who to choose to write 'em. VDP:s lyrics are perfect for Smile, but they would have ruined Pet Sounds or Little Deuce Coupe. Roger Christian was great, great writer, but his car porn wouldn't have worked for Surf's Up, am I rite? An obvious case of apples and oranges. Oranges are harder to eat and taste less great than apples, but then again orange juice is way better and more refreshing than apple juice, if you catch my drift. I don't really.

If I'd had to name one above everyone else I'd say Mike, but I would never want him to have written Smile or Pet Sounds lyrics. Trust Brian, he almost always knew best who to use.

Popular opinion or not, it goes Brian, Mike, Christian. The rest are good but those three are the tops.

Carl's guitar intro for Fun, Fun, Fun. I mean, nothing clever there but it rocks!
