The NPR thing was very insightful. A day in the life of Brian right to the limo pulling away. He was so happy to be in the safety of the car that he starts singing. During the interview, Brian spends an inordinate amount of time with his eyes closed, esp. when being questioned. It is so obvious. He hates doing these things and he knew the mic screen was blocking the interviewer from seeing his eyes, thus the eyes closed alot. In his own world so to speak. But start playing some of his music and it's like electricity is shot through him. He is such a cool guy who has been down such a long and rugged road and still pulls it off. His detractors have no clue about the real Brian Wilson.
well said. you nailed it. brian wilson just wants to be your friend. and make a few dollars and drink some diet cokes

lame interview questions is the only reason that this interview falls flat for some people.. if an interviewer actually asked some decent questions, brian would be all over it.
the best part (on the official bw youtube video of the npr interview) was when the lady asked him what he had for breakfast and he said "I had........ 2 donuts and a diet coke for breakfast."

"Robert - I used to listen to Frank Zappa -crazy modern music"

You're the best songwriter on here, I think. You have a distinctive sound and your chord changes are very well done. They are timed just right, which can actually be the trickiest part of writing a truly good pop song. Your vocals are good and there's a sweet sense of melancholia in the melodies. However, I have two complaints about your videos:
1. You should make sure that your face is obscured by your all of the time, instead just most of the time. It adds a cool mystique. 2. Let your band members play more! What are you, Paul McCartney?
thanks 1. what? 2. what band members?

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: D. Marks in Endless Harmony Doc

Re-watching for about the bazillionth time this documentary, in my opinion the best of the bunch of BBs related docs. But something occurred to me for the first time today. In the discussion of the birth of the band, the David Marks and Al Jardine interview segments, both obviously just clips of whatever further was said, seem to imply the "traditional" but untrue story of the Beach Boys: that Marks was some kind of temporary replacement for Jardine while he was away tending to academic affairs. David is quoted there as noting he was on the first five albums, but it's in passing, and before you know it, Al is back (according to the implied history of the documentary). So I wonder ... what else might their interviews in particular have said on the chronology or their respective roles in the early band, for example? Was the footage edited to be shoehorned into the traditional storyline?
weren't those first albums made like within about a little over a year?
