1  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / Smiley Smilers Who Make Music / 3D talk on: August 30, 2012, 04:37:00 PM
FWIW, I gave a talk last week about 3D filmmaking and demonstrated how I created the "Tornado" video: http://youtu.be/sY4ZDgQ3O1c

3  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / Smiley Smilers Who Make Music / "Tornado" - 3D music video made with construction paper, pen knife, and paint on: July 27, 2012, 07:17:52 PM
I just finished making this 3D music video. It was created with construction paper, a pen knife, and acrylic paint on paper. You will need red/cyan 3D glasses to get the 3D effect.  3D

I wrote and performed the song, and invited some fellow musicians to join in on backing vocals. This isn't quite as Beach Boys-influenced as some of the other things I've done, but hope you dig it anyway!
4  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / Smiley Smilers Who Make Music / Beach Boys-inspired Girls Aliens Food album (free download until midnight) on: June 29, 2011, 02:40:17 PM
The Simple Carnival's 2008 critically-acclaimed album, Girls Aliens Food, is available as a free mp3/FLAC digital download today until midnight EST:

http://www.simplecarnival.com/store/index.php?recid=865&maincat_id=2&subcat_id=2&page=1

There's nothing to sign up for, there's no catch -- just click the "Free" button at the bottom of the page and download away.

After midnight, the carriage turns back into a pumpkin, so go grab it now. Smiley Enjoy!
5  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / Smiley Smilers Who Make Music / Animated 3D music video -- "Smitten" on: June 08, 2011, 07:01:51 PM
Oh man, this smiley has never been so appropriate:  3D 3D 3D 3D

Here's a video I made as part of an eventual 40-minute "video album" for my band, The Simple Carnival. This is the opening track to the album, titled "Smitten." You will need red/cyan 3D glasses to see the effect properly. (The red filter goes over your left eye.)

Hope you like it!  Smiley

Just a reminder -- the cutoff date for contest entries is midnight EST, November 30th, 2008. So if you're a remixing sort of person and you want a chance to win some cool stuff, it'd probably be a good idea to get started on that remix soon!  Cool

Three new Really Really Weird remixes came in this week: Dav, Satan's Little Sister, and EarLabsSolo sent in their submissions. (For some reason, Dav's remix shows up as the last song on the MySpace player. I don't know why.)

Here's the link again...

Don't know if anyone's interested, but three remixes are up:

http://www.myspace.com/reallyreallyweirdremix

Mister Fusty, Heidi Gloom, and Rob Arnold all have remixes you can check out at the above link.

Because Mister Fusty is a judge in the contest, he is not eligible to win anything. He knows this, but he went ahead and did a remix anyway. Smiley

Just wanted to let everyone know that there's a remix contest for this song... The grand prize winner gets one of the instruments I used on the song -- a circuit-bent Casio SK-1! Smiley

Here's the contest info:

Enjoy!

And now the contest remix tracks are officially online (scroll to the bottom to download the tracks):

There's a description of how the tracks are pieced together on Songs and Sonics:

Since the song and video received such a favorable response here, I thought you might like this.

I'd like to announce the Really Really Weird Remix Contest.

In the very near future, I will be making the raw tracks for The Simple Carnival's song "Really Really Weird" available for download. If you're a creative remixing kind of person, you can take these original tracks, manipulate them, and turn them into something that sounds nothing like the original song. A panel of judges and I will rank the submissions.

The grand prize is one of the instruments that was used in the song, a circuit-bent Casio SK-1 sampler (considered by many to be the holy grail of weird-sounding circuit-bent instruments), plus a Simple Carnival t-shirt and a copy of the album where the song comes from, Girls Aliens Food. There are three runner-up prizes (consisting of the t-shirt and CD) as well.

Even if you don't win, there's a possibility that your remix might end up on a future Simple Carnival release. You can read all the details here:

http://songsandsonics.com/2008/08/05/really-really-weird-remix-contest/

Thanks for reading this far, and hope to hear your remixes soon!
