"If Mars had life on it
I might find my wife on it"

Dylan would have been proud to have written this.

I was looking for songs written by John Phillips in mid sixties but that mamas and papas never had recorded but another bands yes.
Thanks anyway Smiley
8  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Name One Song You'd Wish The BBs Should Have Covered on: August 27, 2013, 05:43:22 AM
Brian and Co. should have covered this one:

It fits like a glove.

Doesn't keyboard intro of "Barnayard Blues" sound very similar to piano chords of "Child Is The Father Of The Man"?
10  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Is Sunflower actually overrated? Defend the album. on: August 26, 2013, 02:46:10 PM
#151 in Billboard charts in summer of 1970. Overrated?
11  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Beach Boys in the 80s on: August 26, 2013, 01:08:29 PM
What do you think there are the five best BB songs in the 80s?

 I'd say:

 - Somewhere Near Japan ( I don't understand why don't have been included in MIC)
 - Goin' On
 - Getcha Back
 - Where I Belong
 - I'm So Lonely

12  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Is Sunflower actually overrated? Defend the album. on: August 26, 2013, 12:41:29 PM
An album in which there are songs like "All I Wanna Do", "This Whole World", "Forever", "At My Window", "Deirdre" or "Our Sweet Love" NEVER could be overrated.
13  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: John Phillips Songs on: August 25, 2013, 10:17:35 AM
I once listened to his John, The Wolf King Of L.A. (1970) - thought it was okay but didn't stick with me.

I'm a huge fan of the special M&P blend & tunes, though.

I love it, it's one of my fav albums, every song is terrific but "Topanga Canyon" is an absolutely masterpiece and one of the best songs John have written.
14  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Stanley Shapiro wants to work with Brian on: August 25, 2013, 07:42:32 AM
Stlanley Shapiro, the writer of the WIBNTLA lyrics, wrote this in you tube:

When Evie Sands recorded our song "WOULDN'T IT BE NICE TO LIVE AGAIN" it was placed on the ballot for a Grammy nomination for 'Song Of The Year'... following my co-writer's death in 1983, I wrote the lyrics to another song called "THE GYPSY QUEEN" ... a vision of an 'imprisoned' angel dancing on the waters of the Pacific Ocean... a loving tribute to the memory of Dennis. If Brian Wilson were to collaborate on this one incredible project, I think it would go straight to the top of the charts!!!

15  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Should the Beach Boys have just broken up for good? If so, when? on: August 25, 2013, 04:09:30 AM
The Beach Boys were the best and biggest band in the world at 12-1966. I have always thought what would be if Brian had broke up the band then and went solo.

There is a clip of the M&P performing a cover of "Nowhere Man" on TV, but I suppose the original recording has been lost.

I'm wondering if that fantastic guitar sound was played by Carl...
18  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / WIBNTLA and Top 5 Dennis on: August 24, 2013, 06:15:28 AM
WIBNTLA is very good, but Dennis has done better songs.

I think the 5 top Dennis songs are:

- CUDDLE UP (I think is the Dennis peak)
- FOREVER
- RIVER SONG
- THOUGHTS OF YOU
- STEAMBOAT

19  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: WIBNTLA Reviews on: August 24, 2013, 04:25:23 AM
How the hell could they keep stuff like WIBNTLA in the vaults and not issue it until now. Compare this with another popular band called The Beatles. What did they pull out of their archives for the Anthology series? Subpar material such as You Know What To Do, If You've Got Trouble, 12-Bar Original and Los Paranoias...

Conclusion: The Beach Boys are better than the Beatles.  Grin

The Beatles were smart enough to release their best songs in the albums and not let it shelved for forty odd years.

Conclusion: The Beatles are smarter than The Beach Boys.

Don't forget "Life Thru A Lens" by Robbie Williams, a terrific album highly influenced by Oasis and early brit-pop sound.
21  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: WIBNTLA Reviews on: August 23, 2013, 01:01:40 PM
By the way, is a mellotron the instrument that sounds in the begining of the song? (it reminds me a little bit the intro of "Strawberry Fields Forever".
22  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / John Phillips Songs on: August 23, 2013, 07:33:45 AM
Any Mamas & The Papas fan here?

I was looking for songs written by John Phillips but never recorded by M&P:

Scott Mckenzie "San Francisco", "Like An Old Time Movie", "Holy Man"

"Me & My uncle" by Gratefuld Dead, etc..

Beach Boys "Somewhere Near Japan", "Kokomo"

do you know anyone more?
23  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian's facebook just posted a picture of Blondie Chaplin recording at Oceanway. on: August 23, 2013, 02:58:30 AM
Brian could make a call to Mike and Bruce and ask them to sing in one song of the album and the circle would be closed.

One thing is clear in that pic, Mike is well fed.
25  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Wouldn't It Be Nice To Live Again on: June 01, 2013, 03:47:03 AM
I wish that I could spread the wealth but I promised that I would not share.

Thank you! I don't regret to have sent you this sample for free. I realize that 30 seconds is really short but I sent 1:30 to people who accepted to sell me a CD from their collection. Hope you understand.

I expect to make more deals in August since WIBNTLA won't be on MIC.

Regarding the length of the track, my version is about 4:30 minutes long with about 3:30 minutes which are the song in itself and the last minute which is a jam. Where the information about a 7 minutes version come from?

The really truth is that when MIC is released in August you won't feel so "special" anymore.
"DEAL" with it.
