Look they don;t need half a million sales to be vindicated commercially or artistically. This is their year, just so long as Brian delivers a good album. Brians band many be technically better, but that Beach Boys blend with Wilsons vocal arrangements has the chemistry, and wisely they are using some of Wilson's guys and Mike's guys aren't bad either, that Cowsill drummer seems to have a good feel, hard to tell from just the remake, but if he is a Cowsill he probably well understands the chemistry of a vocal group and family group..
The band line-up is actually what's convinced me that everything's being done right - because Cowsill and Totten are the two people from Mike and Bruce's band that I'd have chosen to join Brian's band. John Cowsill will *amaze* you - he's easily the best drummer any Beach Boys related act has had, as well as being a phenomenal vocalist. Watch the video of the Grammys if you can find it anywhere online now, and just look at his interplay with Nelson Bragg, and remember that while he knows the song, that's the first time he'd played in public with that band. As good as Cowsill is....the distinction of the best drummer any Beach Boys related act easily goes to Todd Sucherman

I am sure this has been asked before but was the "Hey Bop A Ruba" part on the Smiley Smile version recorded during Smile? You know like the "Rock With Me Henry" version.
Which by the way I am keeping my fingers crossed for the Rock With Me Henry mix on the Sessions Box Set. That would be worth the money alone.
Think it was after. Am I the only one that HATES the Rock with me Henry version? For me it's the original harpsichord version or nothing. Nope, can't stand the Rock With Me Henry...destroys the beauty of the tune. Love the harpsichord version only

This is cool...I actually do prefer the alt stereo version with Brian on the 1st verse. The original released version with Carl on all lead vox, I never particularly cared for as Carl sounded like he was scarfing down a pizza while he was singing.

No Taylor or Todd; Mikey D on drums.
Not wishing to seem pickier than I usually am... but Todd hasn't toured with Brian since 2001, Mikey's been back since 2008 and it was announced a couple of months ago that Taylor was taking a few months out for personal reasons. Yeah, and Todd shouldn't be there as his full-time gig is with Styx. They are currently on tour, undertaking the monsterly task of the playing the phenomenal Grand Illusion and Pieces of Eight albums in their entirety....go Todd (BTW, Todd played on most of the Gershwin trax...it seems Brian or Jeff has an affinity for Todd's playing) IMHO, the guy is the best drummer out there, next to Neil Peart.

Midnight Special – April 27, 1979
This is a taping session for the TV show. At the beginning of the song Dennis says, “Hi Mom”. Then Al says, “He’s serious, she’s really out there. Audree’s out there – she is!” Dennis sings lead on "Good Timin’" then says, “Carl & Brian wrote that song. Carl was suppose to sing it but……he chickened out folks”.
Beach Boys Concerts - Radio City Music Hall - March 1-4, 1979
Dennis sang lead on "Good Timin'" during these shows. Bootleg recordings exist of the March 1 and March 3 shows.
Sorry bro, but you are wrong on this. I was listening to this recording last night with those comments from Al and Dennis toward Carl. It is from Radio City and it is soundboard

Brian's best album of his carreer as of yet, no doubt
You should check-out some of the albums he made in the 1960s, they're even better. Yep and it's a shame that there's been very little promotion. If I were Brian, I'd tell Disney to eff off. Why bother with the Disney songs album if they're not really going to promote that either

That's about it.
The Sean O'Hagan thing never got beyond talk.
The Don Was sessions happened, but Carl scotched the project. He didn't believe in the material.
Always really blew my mind how Carl didn't believe in the material during the Was sessions, yet he was ok with the god-awful SIP tunes? Carl kind of f***ed Brian over.

Very interesting to listen to. I've been a fan of the Spring album for many years (and a Brian fan as well). So many portions of it sound as if they were recorded over other sections of "interview". Must HAVE been some cocaine going on. With the exception of Marilyn of course (who is asleep the entire time).
My guess is cocaine and some raunchy funny business. Very interesting definitly weird!
