BTW, Jeff Bridges provides the narration.

Not according to The Internet: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0363486/fullcredits

The origin of the phrase came when Brian and Mike once rode a cab out in Salt Lake City duh....

Your memory is getting senile.
78  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Origin of the phrase, "Fun, Fun, Fun" on: July 31, 2013, 01:02:05 PM

This is a still from a 1954 Disney cartoon:

So this phrase was in the popular lexicon prior to the song? Or just a coincidence?
79  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Was Love You/15 Big Ones the first recorded use of the Pollard Syndrum? on: July 30, 2013, 09:34:53 AM
Oo really? I read that was the tannerin as well. Ace! Because admit it, once deep down ya just want an actual theremin involved! ...
While you're here, did they dig up any more footage or interviews about Jim's early drum experiments for that upcoming documentary?

Yes, it was also a Tannerin.

Not a lot of detail about Jim's drums in the doc.

Wow, I've only heard WIBNTLA a couple times, but I don't agree with the following at all:

"… There are moments that evoke The Beatles’ 'Penny Lane' … the song embarks on a Jethro Tull-like soundscape…"
81  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Re: Which Phil Spector biography should I read? on: July 25, 2013, 03:19:42 PM
i have He's A Rebel by Mark Ribowsky, but honestly I don't rate it - it seems very sloppily written, it passes over a lot and doesn't seem very well researched - I wish he went into more detail, it's like reading a wikipedia article in places. I've heard good things about Wall Of Pain, I keep meaning to pick that one up.

Thanks. The customer reviews on Amazon of HE'S A REBEL generally seem good…. so now I'm not sure what to do.
82  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Which Phil Spector biography should I read? on: July 24, 2013, 06:44:31 PM

What's the best book on the subject? Thanks.

This is where someone pedantically points out the use of the theremin on Good Vibrations.

This is where someone pedantically points out the use of the theremin on IJWMFTT.

I'm surprised "Carry Me Home" isn't included on MIC. When I heard it at Boyd's house I thought it was more intense than WIBNTLA.

The new "meant for you" might be the track that's intriguing me the most

It's very cool, and it's what I was hinting about in this thread:

If Dave and Bruce should turn up at Ocean Way sometime this year I'm thinking we have been had! LOL

Looks like Alan is in the photo above too.

Scott Totten: At Ocean Way overdubbing on a Mike Love track...

Shawn Fletcher: Will we ever hear it though?

Scott Totten: I have a feeling you will....

I know, there's about as much chance of that as there is of a Glen Miller Orchestra reunion, but one can hope.

Adam Marsland said…he'd seen a provisional tracklist, which he understands to be close to the final one, and that it's a Beach Boys fan's dream.

Me too, and I agree.

I think the date on the shirt is from a show in November, 1976

Makes sense because in 1976, November 22nd was a Monday.
93  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: UPDATED: I met with Alan Boyd last week on: April 22, 2013, 08:53:31 PM
I dunno, that's what I thought.

Remember one titled "Your Son," from somewhere, maybe it's the same?
94  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: UPDATED: I met with Alan Boyd last week on: April 22, 2013, 04:38:29 PM
Now i'm excited! Is it a cover or an original?

It's not a cover.

I like this delayed gratification thing. Smiley

Yes, it's more fun this way.
95  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: UPDATED: I met with Alan Boyd last week on: April 22, 2013, 04:30:40 PM
Is it "Our Happy Home?"

No, what's that? An early version of "When A Man Loves A Woman"?
96  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: UPDATED: I met with Alan Boyd last week on: April 22, 2013, 04:28:49 PM
can't wait to hear "Where Is She?" and I know "Lucy Jones" isn't supposed to be great, but whatever, I really hope it's on there. What were your thoughts on these?

Sorry, I can't remember.
97  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: UPDATED: I met with Alan Boyd last week on: April 22, 2013, 04:28:33 PM
What were your thoughts on Where Is She?

Nothing in my notes, so I'd guess it wasn't terribly exciting to me at the time.
98  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: UPDATED: I met with Alan Boyd last week on: April 22, 2013, 04:28:14 PM
are you talking about the '63 or '70 (or '76) version of the song?  I'm assuming by Al, you're talking about the '70 version. Brian sang the '63 version.

Yes, I think it's 1970.

Is the Friends outtake a different version of a track already released, or a new track altogether?

It's something I didn't know existed until I heard it — it was a very pleasant surprise — and don't wanna ruin it for you guys.
100  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: UPDATED: I met with Alan Boyd last week on: April 18, 2013, 11:14:41 AM
I'd assumed the Friends outtake is My Little Red Book.

That's not what I was referring to, but I heard "Red Book."
