Smiley Smile Stuff / Brian Wilson Solo Albums / Re: Brian Wilson Presents SMiLE

I'm tired of Brian going out and acting like he hates being anywhere or doing anything and giving the same 5 answers over and over. If he's going to perform and make records, then he should commit to it 100 percent. OR he should just go home, eat steak and disappear. 'and disappear'. That's terrible...How rude...Where talking about Brian Wilson

Hi, I was at the Orpheum theatre in Boston last Friday. I loved it, loved it, loved it!
I am lucky enough to have seen BW in Boston the past two SMiLE tours also. I was definitely intrigued to see BW and Al on stage again and wasn't disappointed.
the set started in the familiar campfire singalong mode, they started with "Add some Music" (which is always one of my highlights) for the life of me I cant remember the set list for this show (I'm sure someone has it!) but this first section was very good and always a nice start to the show.
I think everyone feels that Brians live voice has improved over the past 5-6 years and I noted that on this show, Jeff was not doubling Brians lead as often as in the past. Brian was singing with real feeling and seemed to be really concentrating on pitching his vocals well. I wonder if this had anything to do with Al being there now, either making Brian more comfortable, motivating him to try a little harder or a little bit of both - nonetheless I think this is the best Brian has sounded to me.
After "you're welcome" the lights came up "Then I kissed her" began, and there was Al, right next to Brian with the familiar white Strat. the crowd went nuts, he got a standing ovation bigger than I've seen anyone give Brian even. He seemed really happy to be there, sang as well as ever and even played lead guitar on "Do it Again" something that I dont think I have ever seen him do!
the rest of the first set was excellent, though I dont have the set list memorised. great to hear "California Saga" particularly Brian singing "on my way to..." Breakaway" and "Please let me Wonder" always a pleasure to hear but enhanced by having Al there though I think Brian still has to get used to having Al there - I'm sure Al expected to sing "Help me Rhonda" alone but Brian dived straight in with the vocal, Al laughed and joined right in
Brian and Al seemed pretty as ease together, often sharing a look or pointing at each other.
The rest of the Band were very very good as usual, I was pleased to see Darian there, I thought there were rumours that he wasnt going to be there but the lineup was the same as usual. very tight and sounded excellent.
then came "Pet sounds" which I hadnt seen live, which is where I really tried to absorb everything and where I felt that Brian had really worked on his vocals, he obviously doesnt have his 1966 voice but he really made his 2006 voice fit the songs - his falsetto was much improved all in all a very solid performance. A great "Sloop John B" with Al sharing the lead. the performance of the album was amazing and all too quickly there was "Caroline no"
the concert ended with the Usual encores (actually a non BW compostion "Johnny B Goode" was one of the best songs of the night!) then a beautiful "Love and Mercy" then done
sorry if this post is a bit random! but I really loved the show. good job Brian. Welcome back Al! (hope he sticks around)
Thanks for the info man!!!

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Martin WONT Remix Pet Sounds

GILES Martin seems to have found his niche with the Beatles, just as his father did 40 years ago. The son of "fifth Beatle" George Martin shared production duties on the "new" Beatles album, Love, remixing original material to create new versions of classics such as Get Back and Strawberry Fields Forever.
Now the younger Martin may tackle some of rock's other classic material. He has been approached by former Beach Boy Brian Wilson about remixing the Californian band's material, including the album Pet Sounds.
Wilson was inspired to write and produce the Beach Boys' masterpiece in an effort to top the Beatles' Rubber Soul, produced by Sir George. Pet Sounds was, in turn, influential on the Beatles' Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, also produced by Sir George.
Wilson approached Giles Martin after hearing Love in the setting for which it was created. Cirque du Soleil's show Love has been a sell-out in Las Vegas.
"Brian heard the music and saw the show and loved it, which for me is just fantastic," Martin said in Sydney yesterday. "They asked me if I would be interested in remixing some Beach Boys stuff, remixing Pet Sounds."
The latest Beatles album, which was approved by surviving members Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr as well as Olivia Harrison and Yoko Ono, melds snippets of Beatles songs into one track. Martin said he would stop short of doing that to Pet Sounds. "You can only do mash-ups for a reason," he said.
"Otherwise it would just be 'Giles Martin goes and destroys bands' projects'. We did this (Beatles album) for a show."
Unless the band is Led Zeppelin, that is. "Led Zeppelin interests me. I'd love to sit down with (guitarist) Jimmy Page and discuss doing something like this," he said.
Martin said he and his father were given approval to work with all of the Beatles tapes in any way they wished. The only stipulation was that they had to use material that was already on tape, except for Sir George's new string arrangement on While My Guitar Gently Weeps.
"What I got from this is that as a four-piece band, the Beatles really played. You hear them play Come Together and it's them playing as a band. There's no studio trickery," Martin said.

On what planet??
Are you serious..The beach boys are huge at the moment Are YOU serious? The Beach Boys don't even exist anymore. Or do you mean The Mike and Bruce Tribute Show? The Stones are huge, McCartney is huge, the Beach Boys are dead. They are having more cultural references ever year, in TV,Film,Songs etc And they have had endless greatest hits albums..and sounds of summer still shiped 2 million in 1 year in the USA Alone..

The main rolling stones are still there.... 2 of the beach boys are dead..You cant compare .
We fans know this, but do you really think that the genereal public knows this is the Mike&Bruce-show when it's advertised as "Beach Boys" ? They probably wouldn't go there if they wouldn't think these are the real Beach Boys. See "Mike Love of america's band". I think you could compare it, though of course you have to be careful what you actually compare. And btw I don't think that they could play stadiums if there was a full (as possible) reunion. Nowaday not too many people give a merda about the Beach Boys, although it seems that in the last two years there is a little comeback. Well it is 50/50.. But The beach boys sell the same amount (or more) than the stones every year.
