The thing I'd like to know is why it took so long for these allegations to come to light. When I co-modded with Billy and Klaas I never heard anything like this...and if I had something would have been done a lot sooner.

The mods made the right decision. Some will certainly grumble but the proof presented here is damning.

I'd like to see him try his hand at some gospel songs. He'd be in good company with Elvis as far as rock 'n rollers who also performed gospel.

Stupidly, I'm going to contradict myself in a single post - and I'm going to disagree with almost everyone in the country right here - I think a major problem with the presidential nomination process is the opposite of what most people complain about. It should be less democratic. The election should be democratic, not the nomination. Having whoever's most popular and able to rile the most people on social media be the candidate is pretty stupid.

Democracy would work if the majority of people were not uninformed or poorly informed. Democracy also gives a role in decision making to those who have no business assuming said role; depending upon who you ask, the people who fit that criteria would vary wildly. As of now the only requirements to vote are being over the age of eighteen and having a body temperature somewhere in the upper nineties. This clearly allows too many undesirables to vote. When many people exist solely to be parasites and/or force their morality upon others (this includes people from both major parties and many of the third parties) they will use the state accordingly. Without the state, big corporations (unions included) and big banks would be in the same boat as people who abuse the welfare system or expect the state to enforce morals. But then again, they're both two sides of the same coin and it's ironic that they seem to loathe each other. They exist only to have the state benefit them at the expense of others.

Politics is the most overvalued and overpaid part-time job in history. The can-dos don't go into politics because they can prosper much better in the private sector. The can't-dos either go into politics or worse...teach.

I do find it INCREDIBLY hilarious and ironic that Bernie's supporters are bitching and moaning about Hillary's "unearned" delegates. The double standard just BURNS. I guess even Sanders supporters can't get behind having stuff given to someone else who didn't earn it. Smiley

It's funny when we mention this whole "if you vote for your vanity candidate THE OTHER GUY WE DON'T LIKE WILL WIN!" bullshit - the fact that that is even a talking point is proof that even the same partisan red vs. blue fuckwits KNOW their system is bullshit and have a similar lack of faith in the process.
282  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Re: Campaign 2016 on: April 11, 2016, 03:51:58 PM
Breaking the two-party system would require great swaths of Americans to stop being red vs. blue fanboys and start thinking on policies as opposed to parties. I believe we're asking too much of our fellow countrymen. I say this as someone who would desire nothing more than the complete collapse of the two-party system, replaced with nothing. Run on policy, not party.

A year on and it still hovers above the realm of being almost completely uninteresting. Al, David, and Blondie are the saving graces.
284  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Re: What do you think of this quote (attributed to Picasso)? on: April 04, 2016, 05:18:44 PM
One can enjoy something without understanding it; one can also find more enjoyment with understanding, though.
285  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Could Mike have written the lyrics for Pet Sounds? on: March 31, 2016, 10:10:40 AM
The result wouldn't be Pet Sounds. Whether that's a good or bad thing is conjecture. I certainly wouldn't change Pet Sounds one bit. But, in the spirit of going along with the fantasy, Michael had proven himself capable of writing good lyrics in the past (The Warmth of the Sun, Don't Run Away, Kiss Me Baby, Let Him Run Wild). I don't think he would have just said no if and when Brian came to him to work on material. Brian needed an interpreter and Michael was the best he had at the time. He may have had disagreements with the material and how it was all put together, sure, but the man wasn't unprofessional or in the habit of refusing to participate with stuff he didn't like.

Still, the bits Michael did contribute to on Pet Sounds are pretty good regardless. Can we imagine I'm Waiting For the Day with someone else's lyrics? I can't, not any more than I could imagine God Only Knows with lyrics by Michael. And the "good night sleep tight" hook on Wouldn't It Be Nice is among his finest contributions to the music. Pet Sounds was one of those situations where the metaphorical alignment of the stars occurred. I'll take it as we received it. It's good enough the way it is.

I don't know whether that's complimentary or not. LOL

That's precisely why I began following the Libertarians. I don't follow their party platform 100% as I've leaned more towards paleoconservatism than straight libertarianism lately (libertarian ideals regarding multiculturalism are dangerous), but they're pretty much on track. Gary Johnson is currently polling at 11%. That's huge.

Oh, don't get me wrong, when it comes to having a game plan, the Democrats will ALWAYS have one up on the Republicans. There's something respectable about that.

http://insider.foxnews.com/2016/03/30/watch-teen-girl-pepper-sprayed-face-trump-rally

Just to prove that I'm by no means some kind of radical right-winger who thinks Fox never gets things wrong (they, like every other major network, cherry pick their reporting). What's funny about this is that EVEN FOX NEWS is selectively reporting this incident. This girl was not sprayed for no reason; she threw a punch. If she connected matters not. She came unprepared and got blasted for it.

Still not a fan of the Donald, but sh*t like this from Sanders supporters is going to drive more people into the former's camp.
290  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Re: Campaign 2016 on: March 30, 2016, 12:55:19 PM
There's something so contradictory on the right. Are the same people who support our incredibly loose weapons laws because of the 'right to protect ourselves against a tyrannical government' also Trump supporters? Because this looks like the lead-up to an openly violent tyrannical government to me. Isn't a president that encourages that sort of violence against the opposition exactly what they claim 'the people' need to be armed against? Do they support Trump because they'll finally have their justification for their weapons realized?

I don't support Trump one bit; I see him as the "right-wing" equivalent of Sanders in just about every way. Trump courts the same low-information voters that elected and re-elected Obama and his two predecessors. I'm also pretty much convinced that he's only there to ensure Hillary wins the presidency. Years of donating to Democrats can't fool everyone. Sadly, The Donald's fanboys aren't that perceptive. They're literally trying to elect another Obama because they're pissed off with Obama.

What is the square root of X? Show your work.

Unless you're assigning a value to X--and it isn't just a variable--this is the square root of X.

That's right! Well done, sir!

I'd probably react to Axl in 2016 the way I reacted to Vince Neil during the Motley Crue farewell tour. When your frontman looks like a donut Pillsbury dough boy, the game is up.
293  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: AC/DC on: March 24, 2016, 08:40:55 AM
The rumor of Axl Rose replacing Brian Johnson on their latest tour made me laugh. If that happens, kiss AC/DC goodbye. What a way to go out, too...

Canadians generally have lousier political candidates than America does, surprisingly. Case in point, this dead clown and the Social Justice Prime Minister himself, Justin "The Turd" Trudeau.
296  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Elvis Presley 1956-2016 The Album Collection (60 CD Deluxe Box Set) on: March 22, 2016, 08:56:13 AM
That collection brings into stark contrast just how poorly most of his 70s albums were sequenced. There should have been a great single album of the 1971 folk pop stuff...yet the stuff was spread haphazardly over two different albums and a bunch of singles. Major missed opportunity on RCA's part.

Brian did seem to be getting crazier and more aggressive in 77.  And yes Mike Love was the antagonist.

That's one of the more morbidly fascinating videos to come out. Al looks incredibly uncomfortable for the entire gig.
