Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Who's Idea was it to put Sloop John B on PS--Brian's or Capitol's?

Memo was dated circa 2/23/66. Tracks listed were:
Wouldn't It Be Nice Caroline, No Good, Good, Good Vibrations [sic] You Still Believe In Ne That's Not Me Hang On To Your Ego Sloop John B The Old Man And The Baby (= Let's Go Away For A While} Don't Talk... I Just Wasn't Made...
... and two others, as yet untitled, one an instrumental. Interesting that "GGGV" was slated for inclusion five days after the very first session.
I can't remember where, but I'd read that "Good, God, Good Vibrations" was a working title for "Here Today". But I don't know how much truth lies in there.... "Here Today", if I recall correctly, originally had the matrix # of the released version of "GV", understandable as an "HT" riff crops up in "GV".

The "truck drivin' man" lyrics, as far as I know, are a 1968 addition...maybe Carl's idea? I'd be interested to know more about this as well...
Doesn't the Frank Holmes artwork have references to these lyrics? They must be from 66/67. The artwork that references these lyrics dates from the late 90s/early 2000s.

I'm the Michael Newman who posted that, my point was I thought Mr.Doe was being unfair by lumping all Blue Boarders in one boat. Especially since he posts enough there, some would considered him one also.
Sorry to disappoint, Michael, but I don't consider myself a BlueBoarder, just a BW/BB fan with a waaay too retentive memory. I've a lot of good friends on the Bloo, but there are also people there who, if they walked into the room, I'd up and walk out. Not naming any names, but what's the point of posting anything if you can't actually make any sense at all of the post, or if the post is so ludicrously fawning as to be pointless. Brian Wilson has written, produced and recorded some of the most sublime music I've ever heard. He's also, in my opinion, written, produced and recorded a degree of unmitigated dreck, but to say this to some posters on the Bloo is like handing out the white sheets and waving burning crosses. No-one is above constructive criticism. The other disquieting thing about the Bloo is that, from recent comments, it's obvious that for a substantial percentage of posters, no other boards exist (presumably because they don't toe the"Brian-is-wonderful-and-can-do-no-wrong" line). To address a current debate, I find it profoundly disturbing that peoiple who consider themselves big BW/BB fans have no idea who Steve Desper is, yet cite Sunflower[/i] as a favorite album. Feel free to repost this on the Bloo. Over the years I've made it a habit not to post anything in a public forum that I'd prefer not to appear somewhere else. Er... if you see what I mean.

Taken from the ESQ site. Hallmark is set to market a cool new Beach Boys compilation CD in the Spring of 2006 including recent studio material from Brian Wilson, Al Jardine, and Mike Love as well as previously unreleased live recordings from 1989 and 1974. The CD is planned for distribution to Hallmark branded specialty retail establishments (i.e. Hallmark Gold Crown); and by mail order via Hallmark.com around Father's Day. Hallmark is also considering re-releasing the CD a second time to a larger distribution base in 2007. The live performances are: tracks 1,2,4,5,6,7,8 recorded in 1989 include Brian; tracks 3 and 9 were recorded in 1974. THE SPIRIT OF ROCK AND ROLL: Brian has gone back into the studio to record this track. PT CRUISER: Al’s fun, rev ’em up recording about the popular car, featuring Matt and Adam Jardine on backing vocals. COOL HEAD, WARM HEART: Mike’s track features his son Christian Love on backing vocals. 1) Intro 2) DANCE DANCE DANCE 3) WOULDN'T IT BE NICE 4) SURFER GIRL 5) KOKOMO 6) Car Medley Intro 7) LITTLE DEUCE COUPE I GET AROUND 9) GOOD VIBRATIONS 10) THE SPIRIT OF ROCK AND ROLL (Brian Wilson - Gary Usher - Tom Kelly) 11) PT CRUISER (Al Jardine) 12) COOL HEAD, WARM HEART (Mike Love)

I think that's just different strokes for different folks
Umm, Ron... coulda phrased that a little better. The whole stroke thing is interesting - everyone close to Brian says he hasn't had one, and has for some 20 years... but when I showed my doctor some footage of him talking, walking and jogging from 1985/6 (because he asked to, knowing my BB interest), without my prompting he said he would put money on Brian having had a mild stroke, maybe more than one, and that he would also bet that he didn't know he'd had it. That said, Brian was talking out of the side of his mouth back in the early 60s.

Same, as far as I know. I once read that the version of "GV" on this album was a slightly different mix, but again, can't hear it myself (and seeing as the master was mono and the vocal mutlitracks have been lost since about fall 1966, I kinda doubt it. Remastered maybe). Still, the source was of the highest caliber.

Don't know where anyone got the idea about the '93 unplugged tracks being on the CD - all I've seen is the ESQ announcement.
"A new collection of live performances, accompanied by solo studio tracks from Brian, Al and Mike, respectively is slated for the Spring."
Collection of live tracks - not a concert.
solo studio tracks from Brian, Al and Mike.
Spring - no mention of March.
Chineese whispers - don'tcha love 'em ?

"Patty Cake" is, allegedly, a song he wrote about a gorilla he saw on a visit to NYC Zoo while on a trip there with Diane shortly after his father's passing. (I know, too much information)
And for the credits for "Awake", all you need to do is check the Spring album.
According to someone who should know, there was a basic track and scratch vocal for "Beatrice" recorded. Alan would know the specifics far better than I.
