"The Euro edition" is a totally different beast. It's called The Platinum Collection - Sounds Of Summer edition and is the small matter of 30 tracks - or 100% - longer. EMI have been issuing 'Platinum Collections' of all its major artists: 3CD sets for about £15, and the BB one is an ideal primer as it takes you from "Surfin'" to "California Dreamin'", touching most bases along the way.

As for SOS lacking album tracks... well of course it would - the criteria for inclusion was that the songs be US Top 40 hits.

Well, I've got a book right here in my hot little hand that says, and I quote, "a largely enjoyable clutch of songs", and I agree entirely with the sentiments of that author, who is obviously a jolly good egg and perceptive to boot. Bought it the first day it was released (in Sacremento, but that's another story) and liked it ever since. This is one CD reissue who's day is long overdue.

Hmmmmm... I've been called 'simple' before, but never 'breezy'.  Smiley
17979  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Remembering Dennis Wilson (1944-1983) on: December 28, 2005, 01:11:01 PM
Not a good Christmas: a close family friend (also called Dennis, eerily enough) had died on Boxing Day... then a few days later my radio alarm wakes me up with The News. Stumbled downstairs, into the kitchen, mumbled "Dennis is dead". "Yes, we know". "No, Dennis, Dennis Wilson". Right about then the phone rang and pretty much rung off the hook all day. I knew he wasn't in the best shape, but even so... hell, it was Dennis - he was indestructable.

I too would love to have more live material from that era.  I'm not sure what is still available but I've gathered that there is indeed more.

Anyone else care to comment?

Yes. There is.

My nephew is looking into stealing the board back - he is tracking this guy all over the place, as well as checking out how to hack php boards.  I guess he's [the hacker, i mean] not making much effort to hide himself or his on-line identity or activities.

Why do people do this?  One answer would be that they don't have any control or power in their own lives, and this is a way for them to feel control and power.

Another answer is that they're just assholes.

Y'got my vote for #2.

Best. Album. Cover. Ever.

... is a much better album.
17984  Smiley Smile Stuff / Other Solo Albums / Re: Pacific Ocean Blue (DW solo) on: December 28, 2005, 05:55:41 AM
If the rumors I've heard and read are true, I believe Bamboo was actually started BEFORE Pacific Ocean Blue. And considering that POB was his THIRD try at a solo album (Bamboo probably formed out of the wreckage of the 1972 solo album).

Errrrrr... actually, nope, think you've misunderstood the sequence. POB had its origins in the 1970/71 Wilson/Dragon/Desper Poops/Hubba Hubba sessions. Bamboo was being recorded before POB was released.

As for POB - majestic.

Bill Bryson's description of Turkish pop music: "a man having a vasectomy without the benefit of anaesthetic to a background of frantic sitar playing".

My considered opinion -

it sucks, majorly.

Quite simply, the worst/least essential (delete where applicable) BB solo album ever released, and that includes not only LBWL but also Bruce's effort.

My favourite ever festive song is White Christmas by Bing Crosby. It’s not something I’ve ever sung myself – but I’d like to.

Ummmmmm... think someone needs to show him a copy of The Beach Boys Christmas Album. Side two, track four.  Undecided

And a merry Christmas to the unicelled clown who thought it was a great idea.  Undecided
