Title: Meeting Mike and Bruce? Post by: summerinparadise.flac on September 26, 2010, 12:33:36 PM I'm going to the Beach Boys show on Thursday and will be bringing some vinyl in hopes of getting it signed. Is there any chance to this or am I wasting my time.
Title: Re: Meeting Mike and Bruce? Post by: kwan_dk on September 26, 2010, 12:56:04 PM It could happen if you're lucky.
Some years ago they played in Copenhagen and we were a few local fans who met up a couple of hours before the show in a meeting room at the venue. One of the guys went outside for some fresh air and bumped into Bruce who apparently was doing the same - so he told him about the small fan gathering and shortly thereafter Bruce popped in for a quick hello. He signed my copy of Friends. :) Nothing planned - just sheer coincidence. Title: Re: Meeting Mike and Bruce? Post by: summerinparadise.flac on September 26, 2010, 01:34:53 PM That sounds awesome.
If I meet Mike I'll definitely ask if he believes in Ghosts. Title: Re: Meeting Mike and Bruce? Post by: Mike's Beard on September 26, 2010, 06:27:44 PM Tell him you also want your bike back. ;D

also, you might catch Scott (or John or Christian)in the wings or around the set at soundcheck.... Post by: Dave in KC on September 27, 2010, 10:00:38 PM Or do what I did a few years back and hand him a close up photo (8x10, color), 2-shot, of Mike and me in the Austin Hilton lobby after the concert in 1969. Mike in his full garb of white sheets and long Maharishi-style hair. He knew he was the center of attention that evening in the hotel lobby. He just stared at me and said, 'Where did you get this." The answer was self-explanatory. "Why Mike, it's you and me when things were happenin'!"
BTW, I've wanted to post this pic for years here, but it is SO personal. Title: Re: Meeting Mike and Bruce? Where is it? If you really want your bike back, you're gonna have to play it smart, as Mike is a sharp customer who knows every dirty trick in the book. Have you still got the hat that was dropped at the scene of the crime last week? Maybe you could arrange a trade off? Mike must be desperate to get his hat back after a week of going barehead, but just in case he tries any funny stuff, might I suggest you send him on a carefully predetermined route around town via ringing public phones, each time giving him another location he must reach by a certain time. Once you feel confident that he is not being tailed, you can give him the final meet up destination for the drop off. Then as an added plus you can ask him to sign your records for you and everyone walks away happy. Title: Re: Meeting Mike and Bruce? Title: Re: Meeting Mike and Bruce? Post by: The Madcap on September 28, 2010, 02:20:03 PM No disrespect but I really respect you, Mike's Beard. Do you really think Mike LOve will miss one hat? yes. Mike has a psychic connection with all of his hats, and being too far away from them puts him under an incredible mental strain. Title: Re: Meeting Mike and Bruce? Post by: Mike's Beard on September 28, 2010, 02:50:44 PM I think it's more the prinicpal of the matter. If word on the street were to get around that Mike was willing to let one of his hats go without a fight, then every two-bit punk would be trying to muscle in for a piece of Mike's hat stash.

Title: Re: Meeting Mike and Bruce? Post by: summerinparadise.flac on September 30, 2010, 10:19:36 PM The show was fantastic though. The young guys are all great and Mike's bass vocals are quite good at turning me on.
Bruce's voice is shot. He took the bridge on Surfer Girl and it was pretty rough. He did warm up a bit but his voice can't handle taking the leads. He did lead on the trio of Pet Sounds songs (Sloop, Wouldn't it Be Nice, God Only Knows). Sloop and Wouldn't it Be Nice were passable but no way should he be singing God Only Knows. Title: Re: Meeting Mike and Bruce? Post by: Mike's Beard on September 30, 2010, 11:26:42 PM I think what happened was Mike recognised you as the guy who's bike he ripped off. He panicked, then had Bruce divert the crowd's attention with a twenty minute rendition of "Brand New, Old Friends" while he slipped out the back door and hightailed it over the border to Mexico till the heats died down.

Same thing happened to me at the Palm Springs show. Okay, I didn't wait 6 hours... I just wandered around the perimeter of the casino drunk a couple times and then gave up. But what a let down! Not really, it was a great show. One of the best nights of my life. I stayed at a hotel across the freeway from the casino. The next day as I was checking out, the girl at the desk had a list of "Expected Check-Outs" and Mike Love's name was on it, along with a room number. It could have just been that he put someone up there under his name, but I stuck around for a while hoping he would emerge from room 135. It was not to be. And then I started to feel like a weirdo so I left. Title: Re: Meeting Mike and Bruce? Post by: Andrew G. Doe on October 01, 2010, 12:11:49 AM waited six hours without so much as eye contact. Say, they are going through a casino/hotel in a "common area" (and not a discrete entrance/exit)- then, maybe they expect to see fans, and "might" stop for an autograph or photo. That goes with the "territory." But, I think that they have a "reasonable expectation of privacy" when they pay for a room. Hotel staff are usually cautioned, or should be, that hotel guests should be accorded privacy as "guests" of the establishment. I find it troubling that a hotel desk clerk would disclose a list of occupants and room numbers. It poses a security risk. I would either "warn" or fire that clerk. Title: Re: Meeting Mike and Bruce? Steve - This is not "back in the day" and if a crew person did that it is one thing and should "not" be a problem. It matters "from whom" the info is coming. The problem is that it is "coming from the hotel employee" who is "an agent" for the hotel. So, it conveys the message that the guest privacy means nothing and that there is no policy to protect a paying customer. Hotel (innkeepers) have a general "duty not to disclose your room number." This came from a general website on "Smarter Travel." (*not legal advice*) Title: Re: Meeting Mike and Bruce? Post by: Rich Panteluk on October 01, 2010, 09:49:12 AM I'm with AGD on this one. Call me crazy but I believe the Mike and Bruce and the band should be treated respectfully by the fans. The music has been so good to me and that is just how I wish to show my thanks. That said, humour always has a place... I was at the show (it was great BTW) and I had the good fortune to go backstage before and after the show and spend time with the people who bring the music to life. It was good fun. Great guys. BTW, Bruce did NOT sing the lead to Wouldn't It Be Nice (That was Randell Kirsch and John Cowsill on dual lead). Bruce did sing lead on Please Let Me Wonder (as well as GOK, Surfer Girl bridge, first verse of Sloop, DYWD). Highlights for me were: John Cowsill going mental on the drums for Summertime Blues (wonderful drummer) Scott's lead on Ballad of Betsy (especially the vocal harmonies at the end) Mike bass vocal work all over the place and his lead on I Get Around in particular was beautifully arrogant (His vocalswere very strong last night) Darlin So Young (Randell has a sweet falsetto) But the song of the night for me was Their Hearts Were Full Of Spring. The Jubilee is a beautiful venue with great acoustics and hearing just Mike, Bruce, Scott, and Randell a Capella was other worldly good. Those complex harmonies slay me. Mike intro about Ron and Nancy was quite nice and sincere too. If I get time I'll post the full setlist later. Going to see them again tonight and tomorrow too. Can't get enough of this music. While the obvious answers to those questions are "unimpressively average, actually" and "depends on if I have ethnic food for breakfast," the truth of the matter is I would be very disappointed if it was a sex thing. Even if a beautiful woman awaited me, having cleverly lured me with the ruse of a fake guest list. For I had fantasized that, had I gone into the hotel room, I would be transported back in time to ML's vocal sessions for "Sumahama," but (to my excitement) only arrived in time to hear the Japanese lyrics. It would not be the first time that I've neglected a clever, beautiful woman because of my love of late '70s Beach Boys songs. Title: Re: Meeting Mike and Bruce? Well JEEZUS~! You obviously spend enough time here to know how much Summerinparadise.fluc wanted to get somethiing signed. Since youre obviously connected, why didn't you message him and offer to get him something signed by the band. It would only have been respectful. You can still do it tonight or tomorrow.... IDK if you're being sarcastic but this goes for everyone who think I'm a creep or dumby: I'm a rock and roll man. I don't give a sh*t about what you think about me. While I wanted to meet Mike and Bruce I don't really give a sh*t about what they think of me. I'm a rock man, a cool guy. I talked to a girl once. Title: Re: Meeting Mike and Bruce? Post by: summerinparadise.flac on October 02, 2010, 12:15:08 AM Also Rich, message me or update this thread with how the show is tonight. I'm sure it was great like last night but I wonder if there was anything different/cool about this show.
