Title: Groups/Artists that make you want to throw the radio out the window! Post by: Mike's Beard on October 22, 2012, 10:26:49 AM I pretty much avoid all modern music as much as I can but at work I am subjected to the horrors of local radio. I was talking to someone in the office today about groups and singers we can't stand and make us want to smash the radio whenever they come on. Here's a list but be warned many of them may be unknown outside of the pondlife that is the UK pop scene.
Black Eyed Peas (esp Will.I.Am - just that stupid name alone makes me want to kneecap him) Take That Jesse Jane The Scissor Sisters One Direction Will Young James Blunt (even if he'd never made another record for the rest of his life that one song should earn him eternal damnation) Justin Beiber Rihanna (seems to release a new song every week!) Anyone else have certain artists that make them want to go on a killing spree everything you hear them? Title: Re: Groups/Artists that make you want to throw the radio out the window! Big Sur is a great song and just because Mike Love wrote it on his own you want to dismiss it and ridicule it! Title: Re: Groups/Artists that make you want to throw the radio out the window! Post by: hypehat on October 22, 2012, 12:32:31 PM Eh, Cablegeddon?
Ahh, have a soft spot for the Scissor Sisters' first record. Maybe it holds up from when I was 14.... Srs confession time - My #1 answer to this is Radiohead. Can't bloody stand them. Post by: Amanda Hart on October 24, 2012, 10:39:59 AM I agree with you re Black Eyed Peas: not a fan of Fergie's voice & just don't like their songs. Pre-Fergie the Black Eyed Peas used to make some really interesting music. When I was a kid in the '90s, I used to be into ska and alternative and the Black Eyed Peas were on the fringes of that scene. Fusions of Latin and Caribbean beats with, gasp, real instruments. They even get a name check in 311's "Come Original". When they signed to a major label around 2003, the label suggested adding Fergie. She was in a girl group that was going nowhere but they thought she was going to be a star. I know she doesn't sing on whatever that first hit single was, and may not sing at all on that major label debut album, but she's in all the videos and promo shots. They're like the perfect example of sellouts. Title: Re: Groups/Artists that make you want to throw the radio out the window! Post by: EgoHanger1966 on October 24, 2012, 10:51:33 AM I hate to admit this, but if One Direction's songs were produced in the 60s or 70s, we'd probably love them. From what I've heard on the radio, they have some catchy tunes, it's just the tween-loving production that makes me go eww.

The first single off Elephunk was "Where is the Love" and Fergie is clearly audible singing the last line of the chorus, and she's on all the other singles from the album too, so I don't know where the idea that she wasn't on the album came from. She's only not on two tracks. and I think it was the band's decision to bring in another female singer, not the label's. I was basing that off of something I saw on TV not too long ago, so it's very possible that it wasn't all true. I knew they had a girl in the band before, and have some familiarity with their music, but I'm not an expert on them by any means. Post by: Alex on October 27, 2012, 11:44:53 PM post-Bends Radiohead you think Pablo Honey is better than OK Computer? that's really interesting. I dig The Bends, but I don't think much on Pablo Honey aside from Creep is worth listening to. PH has Ripcord, How Do You, Stop Whispering, and Anyone Can Play Guitar. The pretentiousness hadn't really crept in yet. They weren't trying to be "important". No well-engineered but ultimately half-assed attempts at "electronica". They actually rock out on the first two albums. The songwriting is much stronger than on a lot of their latter-day stuff. The whole "depressed " thing seemed genuine at the time and not like a schtick. The filler is made up of actual songs instead of "Fitter Happier"-type monologues or 8 minutes of Yorke chanting random stuff over a repetitive synth riff. Yorke seemed to sing with a lot more passion on the first two albums. Seems like from OK Computer onward RH were pretty hit or miss. They get treated like album artists when they should have been marketed as a singles act. I could go on but I just stop here. I think we all get the gist of what I'm saying. Anyone else have certain artists that make them want to go on a killing spree everything you hear them? I'm a pretty positive person so I dont' usually hate on artists that I'm not even in their target demographic, but I must admit that even I am not perfect. The few that just IRK the sh*t out of me are thankfully already out of a career, so it's alright. Ludacris. I hated this motherfucker. All of his raps were nursery rhymes. They sounded like limericks. Hickory Dickory Dock. And you know what he'd rhyme that with. About the only modern act that I can't stand is Chris Brown. I've never liked him, then he attempts to murder a girl, and we're playing his music on the radio all day like he's somebody that should be rewarded? Lets be honest: most of these modern acts are BORDERLINE junior high school talent show rejects... so we're being incredidbly gracious to even pretend that a guy like Chris Brown is something worth listening to.... so as soon as he turns in his civility and beats the sh*t out of a woman for 15 minutes while they're driving down the road leaving an award show that just spent 3 or 4 hours letting the country collectively kiss his ass... as soon as he uses her as his personal punching bag for 15 minutes, I think it's time to stop the charade and just admit the truth: this guy wasn't ever talented, and should be locked up like the piece of sh*t he is. Instead, we keep sending him millions of dollars. I'm sexist as hell. I think if you attack a woman like that you deserve 15 or 20 years in prison. Now she's dating him again. So the only person who's a bigger piece of sh*t than Chris Brown is the woman he beat up. Title: Re: Groups/Artists that make you want to throw the radio out the window! Post by: Ron on December 19, 2012, 11:06:33 PM Oh here's another one.
I can't STAND whenever a group/artist/whatever does a cover of a song, and just completely doesn't even pay attention to what the song's about, who wrote it, or what the lyrics say. So you'll get a chick covering something, and instead of just singing it, they throw all this crazy melody sh*t into all of the vocals and try to go all Christina Aguilera, which completely screws up any meaning the song originally had. I watched the Xfactor tonight. They covered "Let It Be". Instead of a song about Paul McCartney's doubts about his career, and his life, and his friends, and his future... and his mother coming to him post humously in a dream and calming his mind.... it is now, on the Xfactor, an exercise in how many syllables can we fit into the words "Mother Mary", or how loud can we scream about whispering words of wisdom. Just completely f***ed the song up to where it didn't mean anything and the lyrics were almost inaudiable, then they have the nerve to talk about what a great song that is. Well, if it's so great, why didnt' you pay a little more reverence to the lyrics? Is it great because you like the piano in the background, or is it great because the song actually stands for something? I mean do it right, or 'let it be'. Title: Re: Groups/Artists that make you want to throw the radio out the window! One Direction/Justin Bieber/Whoever don't bother me at all, they're just doing their thing. I'm a guy in my 30's, I'm not supposed to be down with Justin Bieber songs... I don't listen to them, they don't appeal to me, but I don't see the purpose in hating on the guy because he's doing what his fans want to hear. Everyonce in a while a boy band comes out with something that I enjoy, most of the girl groups that come out I always like about everything they do. All Saints, the Spice Girls, even Destiny's Child that's some good sh*t. Title: Re: Groups/Artists that make you want to throw the radio out the window! Mike Love has never pretended to be anything he wasn't, I don't think he even pretended he surfed, lol. He's an ass, he's always admitted he's an ass, most of his songs are about being an ass. He was bragging, in song, before Fred Durst was even born "Little Deuce Coupe... You don't know what I got, Bitch!" Fred Durst is one of those dudes who needs tattoos and sh*t to try and act tough. Mike Love wears spandex and sh*t on stage then dares anybody to say anyting about it. He wears pinky rings and does the little 'too-da-loo' wave with his twinkly fingers, then takes your girlfriend back to the tour bus after the show. He is bad-ass like Fred Durst has never experienced bad-ass. Title: Re: Groups/Artists that make you want to throw the radio out the window! Post by: Ron on December 19, 2012, 11:19:00 PM I don't know if I'd ever throw something out of a car*, but I sort of cringe when a modern country artist name drops Hank Williams in a song. The song will always be the most un-Hank Williams-ish piece of sh*t you've ever heard. The only people who can name drop hank williams are 70's outlaw country artists - in the 70's. I take it even further than that. The only person I excuse for name dropping Hank Williams is Hank Williams Jr. Or I guess I would let Hank III name-drop him too, even though he never met him. Or maybe Little Jimmy Dickens. If he wants to talk about Hank Williams, I'll listen. They're always talking about how they're riding around in their truck, with their beer, and their slightly too-fat chick, listening to hank williams. Bullshit. I live in the carolinas. It doesn't get any more country than here, and lemme tell ya, we've all heard Hank Williams, but none of us are listening to Hank Williams.
