I pretty much avoid all modern music as much as I can but at work I am subjected to the horrors of local radio. I was talking to someone in the office today about groups and singers we can't stand and make us want to smash the radio whenever they come on. Here's a list but be warned many of them may be unknown outside of the pondlife that is the UK pop scene.
Black Eyed Peas (esp Will.I.Am - just that stupid name alone makes me want to kneecap him)
Take That
Jesse Jane
The Scissor Sisters
One Direction
Will Young
James Blunt (even if he'd never made another record for the rest of his life that one song should earn him eternal damnation)
Justin Beiber
Rihanna (seems to release a new song every week!)
Anyone else have certain artists that make them want to go on a killing spree everything you hear them?

Stop being such a hater.
Big Sur is a great song and just because Mike Love wrote it on his own you want to dismiss it and ridicule it!

Eh, Cablegeddon?
Ahh, have a soft spot for the Scissor Sisters' first record. Maybe it holds up from when I was 14....
Srs confession time - My #1 answer to this is Radiohead. Can't bloody stand them.

Damn! Forgot Adele. The fat minging bitch. And Susan Boyle - she's so ugly on Halloween children will only treat or treat her by phone. When she performs in public she should be made to wear a bag over her head.

You know, I thought this thread would be kind of entertaining at first, so it's disappointing to see someone wielding their anonymity to post something so pathetic and fun-killing in one fell swoop.

I agree with you re Black Eyed Peas: not a fan of Fergie's voice & just don't like their songs.
Pre-Fergie the Black Eyed Peas used to make some really interesting music. When I was a kid in the '90s, I used to be into ska and alternative and the Black Eyed Peas were on the fringes of that scene. Fusions of Latin and Caribbean beats with, gasp, real instruments. They even get a name check in 311's "Come Original". When they signed to a major label around 2003, the label suggested adding Fergie. She was in a girl group that was going nowhere but they thought she was going to be a star. I know she doesn't sing on whatever that first hit single was, and may not sing at all on that major label debut album, but she's in all the videos and promo shots. They're like the perfect example of sellouts.

I hate to admit this, but if One Direction's songs were produced in the 60s or 70s, we'd probably love them. From what I've heard on the radio, they have some catchy tunes, it's just the tween-loving production that makes me go eww.

This is a little inaccurate, the Black Eyed Peas had a female singer on their earlier albums, too. The first single off Elephunk was "Where is the Love" and Fergie is clearly audible singing the last line of the chorus, and she's on all the other singles from the album too, so I don't know where the idea that she wasn't on the album came from. She's only not on two tracks. and I think it was the band's decision to bring in another female singer, not the label's.

I was basing that off of something I saw on TV not too long ago, so it's very possible that it wasn't all true. I knew they had a girl in the band before, and have some familiarity with their music, but I'm not an expert on them by any means.

Same goes for a lot of stuff out today. It's the production that throws a lot of people here off, or the fact that it's something popular
now

you think Pablo Honey is better than OK Computer? that's really interesting. I dig The Bends, but I don't think much on Pablo Honey aside from Creep is worth listening to.

PH has Ripcord, How Do You, Stop Whispering, and Anyone Can Play Guitar. The pretentiousness hadn't really crept in yet. They weren't trying to be "important". No well-engineered but ultimately half-assed attempts at "electronica". They actually rock out on the first two albums. The songwriting is much stronger than on a lot of their latter-day stuff. The whole "depressed " thing seemed genuine at the time and not like a schtick. The filler is made up of actual songs instead of "Fitter Happier"-type monologues or 8 minutes of Yorke chanting random stuff over a repetitive synth riff. Yorke seemed to sing with a lot more passion on the first two albums. Seems like from OK Computer onward RH were pretty hit or miss. They get treated like album artists when they should have been marketed as a singles act. I could go on but I just stop here. I think we all get the gist of what I'm saying.

To me, Led Zeppelin is exactly what a band should be: 4 members equally bringing creativity, talent, and perfection to an album/live audience. They had the best chemistry of any band, ever.
