Alan joined Mike & Bruce on stage for the first time in twelve years and nine months...

Capitol are releasing a Smile project in the summer...

Brian's recording a new album, probably out in the fall...

Brian's touring Canada & Europe later this year...

Yup, busy ol' year, and it's only February.  Grin

Yes, it sure looks like it could really be a very good anniversary year. Like you say, only February and we already saw and read interesting stuff. I am excited and feel the "excitations" climbing

Also lots of respect and praise from music peers both Young and Old, Lots of positive press everywhere, TV Docs and interviews, Slot at Glastonbury (Too late I know), Smile in the top ten at least in our dreams no1 if only to prove Brian was wrong not to finish it (But I do understand why he didn't finish it). I'm sure most of this is already in the pipe line it's all wait and see but I for one am feeling positive 2011 the year of the Beach Boys Cheesy

Hi Jon,

A little more bone, please. A general FAQ or some FAQ's that we here can sink our teeth into?

Hi Jon,

A little more bone, please. A general FAQ or some FAQ's that we here can sink our teeth into?
Look at some of the other examples that are available now, like the Beatles volumes, the Pink Floyd volume...mine will be a similar format but will retain my writing style. It will be a very detailed look at the whole career, with tons of in-depth analysis on the music and the history. Think reference book, but done so in a series of 30 to 40 essays or chapters, plus various lists and session info etc... I've been working on it (on and off) since mid last year, I'll be working on it for another month or so, then we go to the editing process. Should be available in the late summer. Lots of cool photos and memorabilia images of stuff from my collection too.

I hope to be involved in some other 50th related things too, but for now this FAQ book is the only thing I've going that is a confirmed and scheduled release.

Let's not forget the Mama Mia like beach boys movie.  Fox 2000 paid 2 million dollars for the pitch, so i'm sure that's coming.

then the dennis wilson movie as a follow up for the "bottle shock" filmmakers.  That movie was a hit at sundance when it came out.  So it's in good hands i think.

Apparently Stamos has a grubby finger in both those pies (certainly the "Mama Mia"-type thing), so that's an immediate two thumbs down from me.

well the beach boys one won't have anyone playing beach boys.  It's gonna be a romance set in the 1960's no doubt.  i'd say y'all won't like it.

and the dennis one, well the filmmakers will have final say for sure.

However... I was thinking more of a hint as to whether any fresh Dennis material will see light of day this year?

I just realised something. If the group reunites and goes on tour without Brian, it will be the first time since 1981 where the group will be actively on tour while another member is persuing a solo career/album. Right?

I've been working on a revised and expanded edition of The Real Beach Boy book (on and off) but I still have quite a bit of work to do on it before its anywhere near ready for a release. It kind of depends on my work flow regarding other projects...but I hope to get it out there soon. Also looking into making it available in digital form.

I'm expecting to be disappointed (because of too may past promises), but we will see.  And I can't help thinking, as someone previously pointed out, all these guys are pushing 70 - if they are gonna open the flood gates of material - Smile and non-Smile alike -  then it may as well be now.
