You know, the prisons of Charles Manson and Phil Spector are right next to each other.

I like to imagine a sitcom in which Manson busts himself and Spector out of jail and hits the road in a last-ditch attempt to revive his music career. Manson would be the smarter one always cooking up hairbrained schemes, while Spector would be barely awake most of the time and serve as the foil.

And it's a good thought, especially with money being so tight!
Now the only problem I foresee:  Who is going to provide all the free music?
I hope it's new 180 G vinyl, as I don't have any Spector like that.

"One man's death is a tragedy. A thousand deaths is a statistic." - Joseph Stalin

He'd know. He created a few statistics in his heyday.

Could be a roadmovie too: Charlie and Phil. Who should be the leads?

Let them both out and introduce Spector to Manson as a famous record producer. (Because, well, he is or at least used to be.) Manson could then play some of his songs for Spector, hoping to get signed or produced or something. Spector would, of course, be a flippant jerk to him about the terrible quality of his "music" or at least try to take creative control (and we know how much Manson doesn't like that!). This would piss off Manson and he'd get violent -- causing Spector to do the same -- and they'd both end up killing each other. Win-win!

In Manson's defense:
- He never personally killed anyone, Spector did.
- He already spend over 40 years in prison, Spector just a year and a half.
- Manson's already 76 years old.

In Spector's defense:
- Manson was involved with a lot more murders than Spector.
- Spector's crazy, Manson's evil.
- I guess Manson would still be a greater threat to society than Spector.

I'd say neither, but if I really had to choose I'd let Spector go.

BTW: had Spector drunk heavily on the night of the shooting of ms. Clarkson? I always tend to think that in his case, a fatal combination of medication and booze led to the incident. For instance: antidepressants and strong drink can take away all of a person's moral judgment, his inhibition about evil deeds.

The French actress Marie Trintignant died some 10 years ago, because her partner beat her off of a staircase, and she fell lethally. The man was not criminal, nor abnormal. He'd done it under the combined effects of antidepressants and whiskey. He served, IIRC, 8 years in all, in Estonia, because there were these mitigating circumstances (i.e. he did really not know what he was doing, nor foresee what the effect might be).

Manson was involved in the murder of Shorty Shea, wasn't he? Spector's always been a loose canon ready to explode.

I vote to let Charlie free because he has far more charisma and gives very entertaining interviews to the media (which he has not had a chance in a while to do so). And he could record a new album called "Charles Manson Re-imagines Bing Crosby". "White Christmas" anybody? And we're talkin' white power white?

That's the guy from Noir Desir, right? Never heard about her falling off a staircase, from what I heard she died from the beatings and not from falling. But I could be wrong.

Wiki has a synopsis of what happened and you are both on the right track.  What is shocking is the long delay after she was beaten and when the health care people were called in.  She was in Lithuania making a movie about the French novelist Collette.  What a tragedy.  She was a beautiful actress / woman.  Interesting "sententicng" guidelines...

She is in Père Lachaise in Paris.

Spector had always been a dick with guns, waving them around to intimidate people. It's amazing he'd never shot someone before Lana, be it accidental or deliberate.

Shorty Shea's death is always going to be a mystery as to who done what. Of the convicted, I'd say Tex Watson is the main culprit along with Bruce Davis and Clem. As for who instigated it , lets just say Tex had much more of a motive than Charlie did.

Anywhooo, how about a X-Mas message for us all Charlie?

I don't think he's guilty. I think he was punished for being eccentric.  And even if he is guilty, he's Phil Spector, let him out!

Listen to this backing track, it was cut in '64

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPlQ3YwCKeU

(Pet) Sound familiar?

I love him, unashamedly

At least someone does eh?

If the man killed someone, and like it or not, a jury of his peers determined that he did, the fact that he's Phil Spector matters not. He took another person's life. He's going to pay for it. That's just as ludicrous as people using the insanity defense in the United States.

I wonder if you'd sing the same song if Phil Spector killed someone close to you.

Exactly. I'm sick and tired of killers getting away with murder (pardon the pun) just because they're celebrities. If you killed someone in cold blood, you deserve to rot. Period. And I don't care how much he had to drink...I've been wasted on different substances many times in my life, and murder has NEVER crossed my mind. It'd a damn excuse, and a poor one at that.

In any case, this whole thread probably belongs in the Sandbox...
