We've lost the Bishop of Soul, the greatest living soul singer, the great Solomon Burke, at 70:

That's a bummer...

He had just recorded an album with Dutch pop group 'De Dijk', "Hold On Tight" (which contains songs from this Dutch group translated in English). Just entered the local charts on #2 this week.

Check out their recently released single "What A Woman": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVwKawBbcno
(and here's another track: Het Moet En Het Zal (Enough Is Enough): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvCL3wYBvac&feature=channel)

They were supposed to give a (sold out) concert together in Amsterdam this Tuesday...

Check out the Beach Boys Starline website, the place for pictures of many countries Beach Boys releases on 45.

Right behind you I see the millions; On you I see the glory; From you I get opinions; From you I get the story

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

Sad story. Apparently he passed away whilst on the plane, that had just landed. Everything about him was just huge, including his, erm, fertility. Loved the man. Such a warm voice...

There was The Genius of Soul (Ray Charles), The Godfather of Soul (James Brown), The Nucleus of Soul (O.V. Wright), and then there was The Bishop of Soul (Solomon Burke). Now they are all dead.  Sad

I just now read this. In the last decade or so, there were only two people who were truly the best of the best. Wilson Pickett and Solomon Burke. Three, if you count Levi Stubbs, although he was incapacitated by a stroke for many years before he died. They are all gone now.

Sad indeed, but their soul (music) will never die Afro

They will be listened to and remembered for many many years to come.
