Ok since we're reaching that 50 year anniversary business, lets get to the part that gets most of us the most excited. And that would be the possiblity that they would release some of the best unreleased tracks they've still got in the vaults. There has to have been a reason that they've got a team of guys going through all that stuff. But anyways, we can make all the lists we want, or wish all that we can, but let me ask, does anybody "in the know" have any clue whether we will finally get some more unreleased stuff? The box set and Endless Harmony, as well as the Capitol 2-fers are great, but we haven't gotten hardly anything else in over a decade. And I don't count that Hawthorne collection. It was mostly alternates, and only had, what, one or 2 "new" songs.

So whats the deal? Are there any rumblings? I mean, the impossible has aready happened and we got Bambu so it can't be that much of a stretch to get some of the best unreleased unreleased work by the Boys. I've given up on BB Central, but I have to assume they will be putting out some new stuff in the next 2 years, and maybe some of it will be directed towards us.

I think the main roadblock to future archival releases could be the state of the record industry in general, and Capitol in particular.

That said, Capitol are aware that 2011 is a 50th anniversary.

Something'll happen.  Whether it's anything most of us will be interested in, well...

I have every faith in Alan and Mark and whoever else is combing and cataloguing the archive -  they seem to have found some great stuff in recent years, possibly more than we've heard of here, and I'm sure they want it to be heard by the fans and wider public alike. I just worry that Capitol merely hopes they'll find a couple of Number Ones that they'd forgotten the band had, so they can put out another comp.

I think two archival releases of studio unreleased/alternate takes/track only/vocal only/stereo/live cuts and a DVD video is better treatment from a record company than a lot of bands get. Yeah, the Beach Boys catalog is very large, but we've also had the two-fers, two box sets, and a smattering of new stereo tracks on various comps. If you were Capitol, would you scrape the barrel for more?

But for 2011, 50 years, I think a Beach Boys Live box set would be appropriate. The Beach Boys Live - 1961-1997.

Then call it a day with a Smile Sessions box down the road.........over Brian's dead body.

OK, I know somebody's gonna start a new thread now (for the 20th time) with potential unreleased tracks that are still in the can for another possible archival set.   ZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzz.

I, I love the colorful clothes she wears, and she's already working on my brain. I only looked in her eyes, but I picked up something I just can't explain. I, I bet I know what she’s like, and I can feel how right she’d be for me. It’s weird how she comes in so strong, and I wonder what she’s picking up from me. I hope it’s good, good, good, good vibrations, yeah!!

Am I right in saying that if it was just available for download, more money would be made?

Being that there wouldn't be any production of artwork/cd/etc

Download-only material still tends to come with artwork -  see Al's last album for an example.  The saving would come from the fact that you don't have to print, press and package or physically distribute.

If you're that starved for archival releases, you might as well search for the bootlegs.

A shocking suggestion from which I wish to completely disassociate myself and all my associates. How you can bring yourself to even type the word astonishes me. That word isn't even in my dictionary as I have torn the page out.  Can this board really have sunk so low....?  Where are the moderators when you need 'em?

When it comes to archival releases the BB fans have had it pretty good. Take a group as universally popular as Queen who, if you exclude the stuff they were working on before Freddie died, have never had the vaults raided. On the other end of the spectrum, T- Rex have suffered from the barrel scraping mentality to the point where every 30 second little guitar noodle Marc Bolan ever recorded has seen the light of day.

Yes, such a raunchy objection! I cannot bring myself to believe that the person in question is a moderator himself!

Hey, we can talk about 'em. Just can't say where we got 'em or where to get 'em.

You mean you've got 'em? You have my condolences -  your doctor can however give you an ointment and you should soon be free of them again, for a while at least.

Please, on that basis, don't discuss how or where you got 'em.
