Found this on Blueboard oddly enough...been looking for it for awhile (as others have I'm sure).  It's pretty cool to hear; Howard clearly has tremendous respect for Brian.  Check it out.

Nice. I've had this on cassette for years and was waiting for the day to burn it to CD.

Man...some of this is uncomfortable to listen to.

Stern seems to know his sh*t,though. At least there are some probing questions.

Brian though...seemed a little off compared to know.

Gotta love any interview where Smile is not mentioned once but Brian is asked if he's ever slept with 4 girls at once!  I found most of it to be pretty funny; Howard wasn't as clueless about Brian as others who interview him.  Despite using Brian's "autobiography" as a reference for a lot of questions, I found the interview to be entertaining.

Howard Stern knows his Beatles, which leads me to believe he also knows his Beach Boys.

LOL...that girl who called in messed up...Brian's saying "ahh...she's drunk"

This is some great stuff. Brian bringing up his granddad's treatment of Murry...

Like that...Brian :"Let him talk",talking about the caller.

God...the guy called him "Crackhead Bob"?!

Brian sounds pretty medicated, though. Really slurred speech. Still a great interview. Stern is the King.

Hey, they even discuss Manson!  Grin

Wow, I never heard this before. Thanks for posting it.

It might not be the best interview I ever heard with Brian, but it was one of the most entertaining. I'm not a Howard Stern fan, but he did a great job. He could've made a fool out of Brian, but you could sense that Howard was careful not to embarrass him.

Maybe because I was listening and not watching, I wasn't holding my breath like I usually do during a BW interview. WATCHING Brian is so nerve-wracking.

Understatement of the century - Damn, Brian had a tragic life. The stuff is so legendary and tragic to begin with, but to hear somebody talk about it...

While listening to Brian, I felt sorry for him.

When Howard would talk about the sexual or drug stuff, Brian would either laugh or go "Aw, no, Howard", like a true innocent who was uncomfortable talking about those subjects. Yet, you can't help but wonder how sleazy Brian's life really was in those days.

At the end of the interview, "Good Vibrations" comes on. It kind of hit me hard, thinking about the Brian of 1966, and the Brian of today...

Good points Sheriff...the start of GV hit me in a similar way.  I thought all of Howard's sex questions were rather funny, and like you said, he made sure that Brian did not come across as a crazy rock star.  Definitely not the "standard" Brian interview!

It was through Howard Stern that I first learned about Brian's history and eccentricities.  This goes back almost 20 years now!

Howard used to talk about Brian back in the late 80s--he played cuts from the "Brian Wilson" album when it first came out and wondered why Brian didn't just record the album with the Beach Boys, since it sounded just like a Beach Boys album to him.

Howard also used to play "Johnny Carson" and thought it was the wackiest thing he'd ever heard--until Brian recorded that "Barbie" song and then Howard started playing that.

It was also through Howard that I learned of the Beach Boys/Charles Manson connection.  Howard used to play some of Manson's songs and talked about his dealings with the Boys back in the late 60s.

And I remember how Howard used to say that Brian looked like a deer in headlights during his 1970s concert appearances.  One time a caller mentioned to Howard that he was going to see the BB's in concert, and Howard joked, "Be sure to call out to Brian, "Briiiiiiii-annnnnn!  Briiiiiiiiiiiiiii-annnnnn! See if he wigs out!'"

And it was Howard Stern who played the Mike Love Hall Of Fame speech/debacle literally hundreds of times through the years - he'd start off every show at 6am by playing a reel of various highlights and favorite clips before starting the show live, and Mike Love's HOF speech was always on there. I'll bet more people heard it there than anywhere else. If I'm remembering correctly, he's also had Carnie Wilson on the show before, with a good interview.

Gary "Baba Booey" Dell'Abate, Stern's producer and whipping boy, was once mocked by Stern for having a collection of Beatles bootlegs and outtakes, so I'll bet he's hip to the same stuff as folks on this board including Smile. This was in the late 80's if I recall.

I used to be a big Stern fan but I lost interest.

It was funny in the interview when Howard asked Brian if he knew a lot of TV trivia after spending 2 years in bed watching television.

AND!

Thanks to this interview we now know what Brian's favorite drug was: COCAINE

Howard asked him. I always wondered about that.

I can't get RapidShare to work for this one (it's been fine for other files).  Has the download been removed?  Or could anyone help me with another link or PM...?

That's over at the Blueboard?

Oh man...they're probably all shaking their baby books and prescription medications in anger while emailing the moderators like mad telling them to "ban" the person who posted it.

Brian doesn't like things like this!  Please, Mr. Moderator.  Take this link down!  We must have consideration for Brian."

F**kin weirdos.

Thanks for the link, by the way!
