i was lucky enough to get Carls both albums on cd when they were re-released on cd in 1990 by Caribou. There are some great songs on them, also on the first cd !
In Japan only, however.
Nope in the Netherlands at Fame Music in Amsterdam. They were the japan release thats correct AGD.

I bought them new here in the USA on CD when they came out. POB as well.
POB
, yes... but in all my years as a BB whatever, the only legit CD reissues have been Japanese. Try looking on Amazon or eBay for US/UK reissues - can't find 'em. No BB collector I know of has any. Know why ? They don't exist.
Originals YES, reissues no.
Care to scan the inserts/booklets ? 'Cause if you've bought Carl's albums on US domestic CD reissues, you've got about the rarest BB-related CDs that exists. So rare that no collector of my acquaintance has even heard of them.
Just to make sure I'm understanding you, you're saying "I bought them (Carl's solo albums) new here in the USA on CD when they came out", right ?
AGD,
Sorry if I wasn't clear, I was just saying that I purchased Carl's CD's back when they were first released here in the USA (not reissues but the first time they came out on Caribou). I bought the long box (remember those?) Carl Wilson, Youngblood and then later, POB. I even remember the store I purchased them at (Musicland at the Southroads Mall
)
Do I still have them? No but maybe my ex-wife does. Are they rare? Oh yes they are. The last original Caribou CD I saw on eBay was selling for $125 and that was a year ago but you can buy CD-R copies on eBay all the time.
I can assure you, 100% I bought them brand new, here in the USA 20+ (or whenever it was) years ago. They were here then gone, just the way "10 Years of Harmony" was. Available everywhere on CD and then *poof* they were gone.

Billboard
. I've emailed a few hard-core collectors, and if they say they've got one, then my apologies... but all the evidence I've uncovered is that what you bought were the Japanese reissues. I can find no online reference at all to any US reissue.

I swear I saw Carl Wilson's first CD in a record store at the same time POB came out back whenever that was. Not so sure about YOUNGBLOOD.
I read somewhere that there was a third Carl album that was recorded in '85 or '86 that was rejected, and I've asked other people who basically laughed this idea out of the room, because of the cost overruns on YOUNGBLOOD which made it unlikely a label would ever finance a CW album again. Does anyone know anything about a theoretical third CW album, or was this just one of those apocryphal things that turns up? It did strike me as credible, just because it's the kind of thing most people wouldn't make up, and Carl wasn't exactly that creative with the BBs after '85.
But then again, for years after Dennis' death it was listed in various sources that he had released a second album in 1981 called ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE. (It was an album by a different Dennis Wilson)

Never heard anything of a 3rd album being recorded and/or rejected. he was laying down some demos, with Christopher Cross, but nothing ever came of that.
Carl's albums were reissued by Sony on CD in Japan in 1991, with consecutive catalog numbers. If someone can show me a scan of of a domestic booklet or insert, I'll gladly hold my hands and admit my error, but intil this thread, I'd never heard anything about these existing, and the evidence I've amassed so far indicated to me that they were imports.

And "Youngblood" was remastered by Vic Anesini (POB Legacy) for this re-release.

Well... just got the replies back from two people I asked. Pretty much the biggest collector I know of agrees that the only CD reissues of Carl's albums were in Japan... and someone very much on the inside of the CW loop (and has been for decades) agrees that no such domestic reissues happened.

Yeah, just the second album. I didn't understood it too.
I didn't know if outtakes will be in this reissue.
But reading the label's site, I noticed that some of their reissues have bonus tracks, one or two.
There´s one bonus track: "Givin' You Up" (single version).
What about "Where We Are"? Looks like we're still stuck with the crappy dub of it from Get The Boot for now.

Still researching.
I know what I bought and when I bought them......stupid ex-wife, LOL.
Although I do not have them in my possession any longer, when I purchased mine, there was nothing to indicate they were a japan only release or that they were a reissue.
Some of the gray area lies in the reissue definition - my discs were purchased brand new in the box from a nationwide record chain here in the USA that had no "import" sections. Back then, a lot of CD's were manufactured in Japan as the production facilities here in the USA were not yet up to speed but by no means were my discs a Japan release or exclusive to one corner of the world.
I know what I had and there was no difference between these and any other title stocked in the store.
I'll have to see if I can contact some of the guys I worked with at Goldmine and Discoveries. I had a whole stack of stuff I compiled with regards to solo / non-Beach Boys releases when we would work to re-edit the price guides back in the day.

When someone can scan the booklet from the
Japan
version of Carl's CD's, then we have a place to begin.

OK, here's the definition of reissue - not the first time they were released.
Example:
POB
was first released on LP/cassette in 1977... then reissued on CD in 1991 (for about five minutes). The 2nd CD reissue was in 2008.
Now, you're not going to like this, but it's a fact. I contacted possibly the biggest BB collector there ever was, and yes, he recalls the 1991 CD reissues of Carl's solo albums, had them in his collection. They were Japanese. He has never heard of any US CD pressings of these albums: he never had any such copies in his collection. Also, I contacted someone who knew Carl for over 40 years, who worked with him for many of those years and also had other, non-musical connections. They have never seen nor heard of any US domestic CD pressings of his solo albums either. I went through every 1990/1991/1992 issue of all the BB fanzines then extant: no mention of any CD reissues of these albums. The CDs you bought
had
to be Japanese pressings for this simple reason: there were, and are, no others. Doesn't matter if you think they were the original CD release, or a reissued CD release. If you purchased them in 1991, then they had to be a reissue as the original albums were out in 1981 and 1983.

Not doubting for a moment you bought CD versions of Carl's solo albums as you said, but the fact remains, they had to be Japanese imports. I've been in CD shops all over the US going back to the 80s, and by and large, they didn't have a separate import section: any imports were in the section for that artist. Sony/Caribou in the US has never released those albums on CD.
If anyone can post a scan of the booklet or insert that doesn't have the catalog numbers SRCS 6102 or SRCS 6103, then I'll begin to doubt my research. The original catalog # for
POB
was PZ 34354 and that for the 1991 CD reissue ZK 34354: similarly, all the BB Caribou CD reissues carried the same catalog number but with a new ZK preface, therefore a US pressing of Carl's album would have the following catalog numbers -
Carl Wilson
- ZK 37010
Youngblood
- ZK 37970
Show me one of those, and I'll hold up my hands and 'fess up.

I can't say they weren't Japanese imports, myself. I just didn't notice anything to indicate they were. But heck, it was 20 years ago, and it was a 10 second decision not to buy it.

Just looked through a couple of Carl's set lists from way-back-when and it's worth noting that they were almost utterly devoid of BBs material, other than Long Promised Road which was his own anyway.
Have Al, Brian or Mike ever performed a concert at which 90% of the material performed originated on their solo releases?
Was Carl turning his back on the band, or just more concerned with being a contemporary artist performing contemporary material? Or was he just desperate to promote his albums?

Well...
When we backed Al at the CWF Foundation it was all stuff from his new album, though one song was a remake of "Honkin'". We only did three songs though. But TECHNICALLY...

Al and Brian's concerts are mostly Beach Boys stuff. When Michael did a limited solo tour in 1981 to plug Looking Back With Love, he played virtually the entire contents of that album along with a helping of the hits.

Yes, well, except for those concerts where Brian played the entirety of his new albums. You know, the majority of touring he did in 2004-2005 and those shows in 2007 and 2008.
